🔼 Southern Living. Auburn wide receiver Nick Mardner may be from north of the border, but he is relishing his time spent here in the South—the graduate transfer from Oakville, Ontario, joined the Tigers in January and he has been enjoying life on the Plains ever since.

“I think my favorite thing about Auburn and the town itself is probably the people and how friendly and how nice everybody is. Of course, the amazing facilities we have are incredible, all the coaches are nice and promote a family atmosphere. Everything that people talk about when they talk about the South and how welcoming people are is pretty much my favorite thing about being here.”

🔼 Bounce Back. Auburn soccer suffered its first loss of the 2023 season Thursday, falling 2-0 to Wake Forest at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Auburn's offense mustered 13 shots on the night but could not penetrate the goal line. Wake Forest only forced five shots off but capitalized by scoring twice. The Demon Deacons broke through in the 42nd minute with an own goal and netted their second in minute 49.

Defensively, Auburn limited Wake Forest to three shots on target. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska made saves on two of the three. Center backs LJ Knox and Madeline Moore went the full 90 alongside right back Hayden Colson. Senior Mallory Mooney saw 80 minutes, and sophomore Erin Houston played 24 off the bench.

Up next, Auburn will host American University on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. for Youth Soccer Day. The first 150 children at the game will receive an Auburn piggy bank. The match will be available to stream on SEC Network+.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Coming back to the start. We’ve got just one day—yes, one more dayuntil Auburn football is back, so we’re going back to where it all started for today’s trivia question.

The Tigers played their very first football game in 1892 and came out the victors against what team? (Hint: They eventually became conferene rivals some decades later when the Southeastern Conference was formed.)

🐅 ONE BIG THING

Save the dates. Auburn women's golf announced its tournament schedule for this season, including a tournament slate that features nine regular season events—four will be in the fall and five are in the spring prior to postseason play.

The Tigers will be returning to some familiar courses for four events including the Mason Rudolph Championship, where Megan Schofill captured last year's individual title, to kick off the fall season from Sept. 22-24.

Auburn will also return to the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 18-20), the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (Mar. 4-6) and will look to defend its title at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic (Mar. 29-30) to finish the regular season.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: University of Georgia

Auburn’s football program got off to a great start, winning 10-0 over Georgia in the team’s first-ever game and the origin of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry. That 1892 squad was organized by George Petrie, a history and Latin professor who played football at Johns Hopkins University and who wrote the Auburn Creed—which celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2023.

🐅 Have a good Friday and a great weekend, y’all.
