📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Down To The Wire. Auburn forced two turnovers and grabbed a second-half lead against the nation's top-ranked team, but No. 1 Georgia scored the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter to cap off the 128th renewal of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry.

“I'm really proud of our kids,” Auburn coach Hugh Feeze said. “Hopefully we can build off the way we played better today. It hurts and it's disappointing that we couldn't find a way to get it done.”

🔼 A Trip Down Memory Lane. We often refer to the “good old days” but it’s unlikely that anyone on the Auburn Tigers football team would have thought that about the grueling winter workouts Coach Pat Dye—who had just arrived at Auburn from Wyoming—implemented in 1981.

“It was incredibly challenging physically, mentally, emotionally, on every level,” recalled quarterback Randy Campbell to Andy Burcham on the Talking Tigers podcast. “All you thought about was, can you make it through the next day?”

For approximately three dozen players, the answer was no. Those who stayed and endured laid the foundation for Auburn’s excellence in the 1980s.

After losing to the Longhorns, Auburn, who had been ranked No. 4 in the preseason, ran the table, winning 10 straight games and defeating five straight ranked teams to end the season: No. 5 Florida, No. 7 Maryland, No. 4 Georgia, No. 19 Alabama and No. 8 Michigan in the Sugar Bowl.

Having gone 6-0 in the Southeastern Conference to win Auburn’s first SEC championship since 1957, Auburn faced the Wolverines in New Orleans.

Trailing 7-6 in the final minute at the Superdome, Michigan stopped Bo Jackson short of the goal line on third down, setting up Al Del Greco for a 19-yard game-winner.

“It was my last attempt in my last game,” said Del Greco, whose poise under pressure impressed his future Miami Dolphins head coach, Don Shula. “He said that being able to do that in that moment was one of the things that made them interested in signing me.”

🔼 The Windy City Nitty Gritty. As you’re reading this Brew over your morning brew, the No. 9 Auburn women’s golf team will have likely already teed off (7:39 a.m. CT) for the Windy City Collegiate Classic. That doesn’t mean you can’t follow along, as the tournament runs through Tuesday (regular play Monday; finals Tuesday).

On the heels of their runner-up finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship to start the 2023-24 season, Auburn faces a competitive field in The Prairie State, as 12 of the 15 teams in the field are in the WGCA top-25, including defending national champion No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 5 USC, No. 8 Texas, and No. 11 Oregon.

Senior Anna Foster is back in the starting lineup for the Tigers for the event, as she will be making her season debut. In 10 events last season, Foster finished second on the team in rounds under par and scoring average. She also led the team in total birdies with 88.

Live scoring of the tournament will be available on Golfstat.com and the Golfstat mobile app.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 57 times!

Both universities have been members of the SEC since December 1932, but this intense rivalry dates back to 1901. Auburn and LSU have played every year since the SEC instituted divisional play in 1992 and the margin in the series history is tight—LSU holds the most number of wins but only by a mere five games (29–24–1).

🐅 Have a great Monday, y’all!
