Good morning. Auburn held its opponent to two or fewer runs for the third straight game in a 7-2 win against UAB Tuesday night at Plainsman Park.

Six pitchers, including three who made their Auburn debuts, combined to hold the Blazers to two runs on six hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

"I thought if we were going to have challenges tonight, it would be from (pitching), but those guys did an amazing job," head coach Butch Thompson said. "We've been waiting for that outing for a long time, to see him perform well and attack,” Thompson said of pitcher Griffin Graves.

🔼 The Apple and the Tree. Carson Myers looked right at home at Plainsman Park, throwing six scoreless innings in his Auburn debut.

Perhaps it’s because he grew up there.

The son of former Auburn pitching coach Matt Myers, Carson spent many an hour as a toddler at the ballpark from 2005-07.

“I’ve had some good stories I’ve been told from what I did here when I was young,” Carson Myers said.

In his first outing, with his parents in attendance, the younger Myers earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out a career-high eight batters to earn the victory over Eastern Kentucky.

“There’s something special about this place,” Matt Myers, who is now a veteran pitching coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, said. “You have amazing people here influencing these guys to be really good men when they leave.

“It’s everything I could have expected,” Carson said. “This is such a prestigious school in baseball. To be able to put on this uniform is awesome.”

🔼 Putting the Leg in Legacy. Senior Ryan Kinnane of the Auburn track & field team was selected as the 2024 SEC Men's Indoor Track & Field Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

It is the third year in a row that Kinnane has won the SEC Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Kinnane is the first Auburn track & field athlete ever to win three SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards. He won the SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2022 and 2023. Last cross country season, he was awarded SEC Runner of the Week, fall SEC Academic Honor Roll and was the first Auburn cross country man to win UTSFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors.

The winning student-athletes will be recognized at the SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Feb. 23-24.
