Bodda Getta Daily Brew 11/14: The Tigers Tackle Box

Today, football forces Keionte Scott and Jalen McLeod receive SEC honors.

Good morning. Auburn's Jalen McLeod has been named Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week, while Tiger teammate Keionte Scott earned weekly honors for special teams.

In Auburn's 48-10 win Saturday at Arkansas, McLeod, a junior jack linebacker, became the first Tiger to record three sacks in a game since Derick Hall's hat trick in the 2021 Iron Bowl.

After helping Auburn's defense stop the Razorbacks' opening drive with a three-and-out, Scott fielded a punt at the Tigers' 26-yard line and raced 74 yards for Auburn's first punt return for a touchdown since Quan Bray in 2014 to give the Tigers a 14-0 at the 10:44 mark in the first quarter.

🔼 This is the Way. Another day, another award for an elite Tiger. Auburn point guard Aden Holloway has earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

In his collegiate debut last week, he averaged 15 points and 4.5 assists per game against No. 20-ranked Baylor and Southeastern Louisiana combined. Holloway led Auburn with a team-high 19 points and six assists in 26 minutes of play versus the Bears. His 19 points were tied for fifth most among all NCAA Division I freshmen in a season opener this season.

Holloway followed that performance up with 11 points and three assists in an 86-71 victory over the Lions in the Tigers' home opener at Neville Arena.

For the week, the McDonald's All-American and five-star recruit for the Tigers converted 7-of-16 shots from 3-point range. He currently boasts a 3.00 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks fifth-best in the SEC.

🔼 The Stuff of Legends. “I think there are going to be some fun things regarding our legends that we’re gonna see,” Auburn head hoops coach Bruce Pearl said in his presser about the upcoming Legends Classic in Brooklyn, noting Marquis Daniels and Charles Barkley.

BP said that when they were asked to be a part of this tournament again, they knew Notre Dame and St. Bonaventure were already on tap, and though it’s a neutral site, those teams have a lot of East Coast fans. But that’s part of the growth experience for his team.

Pearl noted that despite being proud of Auburn’s win over Southeastern Louisiana, watching the tapes back has shown him that the squad is still struggling a bit on defense during the second half—a recurrent theme throughout the years.

“Whether it be the ability to make some adjustments, whether it be the ability to overcome some fatigue, the ability to perform better defensively in the second half is something we’re working on.”

Auburn faces Notre Dame at the Legends Classic on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT., and that game will be on ESPN2. Friday’s game against Oklahoma State will be on ESPN2/ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. CT and against St. Bonaventure at 8 p.m. CT.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

The OG OT. As we look ahead to this year’s Iron Bowl game between Auburn and Alabama, it’s time to take the trivia question down Memory Lane—although not too far back.

In 2021, the game went to its first overtime in Iron Bowl history despite the two teams having played each other 86 times. But it didn’t stop there—it went into multiple OTs.

Today’s question—how many overtimes were there in that epic 2021 matchup?

Think you know the answer? Scroll down to the bottom to find out!

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Four times!

Auburn starting quarterback Bo Nix did not play that game due to an ankle injury. After allowing seven sacks and committing eleven penalties, Alabama trailed 10–3 with 1:43 remaining. The Tigers kept a high-powered offense in check and limited a Heisman Trophy quarterback until the final minutes of regulation when Alabama drove 97 yards for a game-tying touchdown to force the first overtime game in Iron Bowl history.

The teams traded field goals in double OT and two-pointers in triple overtime, but Auburn fell just short in quadruple overtime—a true dogfight in every sense of the word.

Jordan-Hare is sure to be the loudest place on Earth on Nov. 25.

🐅 Have a great Tuesday, y’all!
