Good Morning, Auburn Family. Junior outside hitter Madison Scheer was among those named preseason All-SEC. 

Scheer’s breakout sophomore season was highlighted by an AVCA National Player of the Week award, just the second such honor in program history. 

Across the 2023 campaign, Scheer racked up career highs in kills (385), kills per set (3.35), hitting percentage (.263), points per set (3.60), total blocks (54) and blocks per set (0.46). 

The SEC also released the preseason coaches’ poll, with the Tigers slated tenth out of the fifteen teams. In his four years as head coach, Brent Crouch has led teams to outperform preseason poll expectations in the last three seasons.

🔼 And the Oscar Goes To... Going into the 2023 season, Oscar Chapman was sure it would be his last with college football. 

It began much like Chapman’s other three seasons, with a new coach—another year to adapt. But it became another year of growth for the punter, who finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference with a 44.6-yard season average and had a career-long 71-yard punt against Georgia—tied for third longest in Auburn history.

As Chapman looked back on 2023, he realized that staying another year would be even more beneficial than entering the National Football League. 

“I really wanted to come back, and I am excited for another season with Coach [Tanner] Burns and my long snapper Reed Hughes.”

🔼 On a Roll. Honor Roll. A total of 127 Auburn student-athletes have been named to the 2023-24 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.

The First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2023-24 academic calendar. Football led the way with 19 selections, while baseball totaled 15. Women’s swimming and diving (13) and women’s track & field/cross country (10) rounded out teams with double-digit honorees.
