Bodda Getta Daily Brew 9/6: The Fade to Fairweather
We look back on last year's game-winning TD as we face the Cal Golden Bears again this Saturday
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Last year, Auburn traveled across the country to Cal the second week of the season. Trailing 10-7 in the fourth quarter, the coaches called on new tight end Rivaldo Fairweather. On second-and-goal, Payton Thorne threw a fade to Fairweather in the back corner of the end zone. The FIU transfer caught what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown.
Auburn won the game 14-10, and Fairweather set the program’s single-season tight end receiving record with 38 catches last season.
A year later, Auburn has prepared for another week-two matchup against Cal. This time, the Golden Bears have to travel. Tomorrow, they’ll find out what it’s like to play in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

🔼 The Best Offense Is…Well, a Good Offense. A dominant offensive showing from No. 13 Auburn soccer saw the Tigers take down Samford 5-0 Thursday night at Yelton Field. Head coach Karen Hoppa earned her 350th career win in the contest.
“Our team is playing hard and continuing to show out,” Hoppa said. “I thought we adapted well to the opponent and scored some great goals.”
Up next, Auburn returns home for a top-20 matchup against No. 17 Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on the SEC Network.
🔼 Losses? What Are Those? Like a well-oiled machine, Auburn (5-0, 0-0) cruised past Cal Poly (2-2, 0-0) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21), behind .323 hitting and seven aces to remain undefeated in the early parts of the 2024 campaign.
🔼 On the Receiving End. It’s time for Three Questions With Sam Jackson V: 👇🏼
Q: What was the experience like to play at Jordan-Hare Stadium for the first time?
A: It was insane. Before we even get on the field, Tiger Walk. I get off the bus, I look down the hill, and it’s just a long line (of fans)…And it was pretty hot. You have fans like that who are willing to sit in 100-degree weather and wait for you just to shake your hand, it’s pretty exciting. Then you get to the stadium, and the student section is already there before you even come out and pray. It was pretty exciting for me. When I got in the game – I usually don’t hear the crowd roaring – but I did when I got in the game this time because there were so many people there.
