Bodda Getta Daily Brew 9/9: Sunday Funday
Or maybe we should call it "Win Day," as both both Auburn Soccer and Volleyball remain perfect!
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Caitlin Clark. Angel Reese. Coco Gauff. Nelly Korda. The many women who won medals in Paris at the 2024 Olympics.
It’s not just a moment. Women’s sports are requesting—nay, demanding—the spotlight and Auburn Soccer and Volleyball are right there to add to the momentum.

🏈 Playing With an Edge: Auburn’s Jalen McLeod, Keldric Faulk
🐅 And much, much more!
🔼 Very Demure. Very Mindful. Very UNBLEMISHED. It was Olivia Woodson’s 49th-minute game-winner that proved to be all No. 13 Auburn needed to walk out victorious as the Tigers handed No. 17 Ohio State its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 battle at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
The Tigers improved to 7-0-0, the best start to a season since 2018. Auburn’s defense has yet to give up a goal in 630 minutes of play, which sets a new school record for consecutive clean sheets.
“A huge test, and it was great to pass it,” Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said.
Up next, Auburn stays home to wrap up its nonconference slate with Old Dominion on Friday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
🔼 A “Seminole” Moment. Behind a season-high 17 blocks and 76 digs, Auburn (6-0, 0-0) held Florida State (4-1, 0-0) to just .124 hitting to secure its first top-25 victory in Neville Arena since 2015, 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20).
“It’s a great win! I challenged the team after the first set,” said Coach Crouch. “I thought we were kind of medium out there and let one get away from us. From then on, it was just pedal to the metal.”
🔼 Auburn’s One-Two Punch. Struggling to make an impact on his high school football team, Jalen McLeod wanted to quit, but his older brother, Aubrey, would not let him.
Aubrey believed Jalen’s athletic prowess could be the avenue to a college education.
“He made sure I stayed in school,” Jalen said.
Tragically, Aubrey McLeod passed away in April at age 29, the victim of a shooting while taking his sons to football practice in Washington, D.C.
In the days leading up to Kickoff on The Plains, McLeod reflected on Auburn’s season-opening five-game homestand and the opportunities it provides.
“For all of the bucks [outside linebackers], it’s a great way to showcase our talents and how we all came together, performed and made plays together.”
On cue, McLeod delivered the season’s first sack, followed by fellow edge rusher Keldric Faulk, Auburn’s one-two pass-rushing punch.
Read “Playing With an Edge: Auburn’s Jalen McLeod, Keldric Faulk” for more on this talented duo.
🔼 In the Zone. The Auburn University Board of Trustees has awarded initial approval of the Jordan-Hare Stadium north end zone multi-use facility project.
This transformative project aims to enhance the overall Auburn fan experience by providing modernized amenities. The addition will combine premium seating, concessions and stadium support facilities, along with versatile conference event spaces, retail venues, student activity spaces, meeting rooms and future shell space.
Robin and Reid Dove (‘94) donated a leadership gift in support of the project’s commencement. This generous gift is the largest single capital donation in Auburn Athletics history. The Doves’ children, Anna Reid (’21/’22) and Hal (’23/’24), are both graduates with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Auburn.
🔼 In Their Minds, They’re Goin’ to Carolina. Auburn is set to begin its 2024-25 season at the Cougar Classic at Yeaman’s Hall Club, a par 71 course, in Charleston, South Carolina. The opening two rounds of the event will be played today, and the final round will be played tomorrow. Players will begin the opening 36 holes with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
The team enters the season after recording the best team scoring average in program history (287.35) and claiming two tournament wins, including the NCAA Auburn regional during the 2023-24 season. The Tigers reached match play at the NCAA Championship for the fourth time since 2019 and finished the season as national quarterfinalists.
