📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Game Of Thornes. He’s putting the nation on notice from The Plains—Payton Thorne has been selected to the Golden Arm Award Watch List. This comes just a few days after head coach Hugh Freeze named him the starting quarterback for the season opener against UMass. The incoming transfer from Michigan State battled with incumbent Robby Ashford and freshman Holden Geriner for the starting job.

Payton Thorne finished his time with the Spartans by setting single-season records for total yards, total touchdowns, and passing touchdowns. He ranks fifth in career total touchdowns, fifth in career total yards, fourth in career passing touchdowns, and third in single-season passing yards.

🔼 High Five. A total of five Auburn Tigers earned recognition on the 2023 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Football Team as voted on by SEC coaches—including running back Jarquez Hunter, tight end Luke Deal, offensive lineman Kam Stutts, defensive back Nehemiah Pritchett, and punter Oscar Chapman.

💨 Jarquez Hunter has rushed for 1,269 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons on the Plains, adding 285 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He brings a 6.6-yard-per-carrry average into his junior season.

💪 Luke Deal earned a reputation as one of the SEC's better blocking tight ends. He made a career-best 32-yard reception against Ole Miss last season and hauled in his first touchdown catch in 2021 against Mississippi State.

⬆️ Kam Stutts started six games at right guard in 2022 and two at left guard. He’s entering his sixth season with the Tigers.

💥 Nehemiah Pritchett has made 91 career tackles and broken up 22 passes since earn playing time as a true freshman in 2019. He made 4.5 tackles for loss last season and has recorded two career interceptions.

👟 Oscar Chapman was a Ray Guy Award semifinalist in 2022, when he ranked fourth in the SEC averaging 43.9 yards on 57 punts. He ranked second in the SEC as a sophomore in 2021 averaging 44.1 yards per kick.

🔼 Meg Flyin’. Standing on the 15th green at the Bel-Air Country Club—Megan Schofill watched as Latanna Stone lined up her par putt to extend the final match in the U.S. Women’s Amateur. If Stone made it, the two would play another hole. If she missed, Schofill was the champion.

When the ball lipped out, Schofill felt like all the breath was taken out of her.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “When she missed it, I was just like, ‘I just won the U.S. Amatuer.’ It was utter disbelief. There is no other way to describe it. It is something I will always remember for the rest of my life.”

Schofill clinched the 36-hole final match with a 4&3 victory over Stone of LSU. She became the first U.S. Women’s Amateur champion in Auburn history.

🔼 Fresh Prince. Aden Holloway has yet to play a game in college, but he’s already receiving high praise from the man who’s going to coach him.

“He’s special,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said of Holloway on this week’s edition of the College Hoops Today Podcast. “He’s got real gifts.”

A five-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, Holloway is in position to be one of the top freshmen in college basketball during the upcoming season.

“Aden has captured the hearts, minds, and souls of our team,” Pearl added regarding the 6-foot Holloway. “They’ve recognized his ability to shoot the ball and elevate his game.”
