Bodda Getta Brew 10/11: Scheer Madness

Today, we're in awe as the awards for volleyball star Madison Scheer roll in.

Good morning. Another day, another accolade for Auburn volleyball standout Madison Scheer. A day after receiving her second SEC Player of the Week honors, the fierce outside hitter has been named AVCA/GameChanger National Player of the Week after she swung for a career-high .667 with 14 kills on 18 attempts with only two errors in the Tigers' historic win in Gainesville on Friday.

🔼 From Auburn Bros To Football Pros. Auburn alums Anders Carlson and Daniel Carlson faced each other for the first time ever in the NFL in the most recent edition of Monday Night Football—and when you consider that they were on the same team at Auburn, this was the brothers’ first time as opponents at all. Anders is in his rookie season with the Green Bay Packers while Daniel has had an impressive six-year run as the kicker for the Las Vegas Raiders.

"It was fun to play on the same team when I redshirted, but now that we're competing, that's the kind of game you want as a brother," Anders said. "I love being on the same team, but it's almost more fun to play against him.

Both have been nothing short of impressive, as Daniel is 146 of 162 on field goals. He finished third in the NFL with 163 points in 2021 and last year, he set the NFL record for most 50-plus yard field goals in a season with 11. Anders has yet to miss a kick, making all five of his field goal attempts and all nine extra point attempts through the team's first four games. In his NFL debut, he landed a 52-yard field goal just before halftime and made all five of his extra points to help the Packers beat the Bears and start 1-0.

Anders took advantage of Auburn’s Thursday night game the week before last, attending the Georgia game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. It was his first game back since he was a player.

"Auburn-Georgia, those are the games you go to Auburn for," he said. "It was tough to lose because I thought the guys had the game and I thought they played really well, but I really do feel like a new wave of Auburn is coming. I'm excited to see where it goes the next few years."

As for what his family, who took a pre-game photo, wanted to happen in the bro v. bro NFL matchup, Anders joked that his mom wants “a fight at midfield between me and him.”

🔼 Freeze Frame. After a week off, Coach Hugh Freeze & Co. are itching for some competition.

“We're excited to get back to work after an open week, excited to see our kids this afternoon and get the week started off right preparing to go to Baton Rouge to play a very difficult opponent,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said of the upcoming LSU matchup in his weekly press conference. "I think their offense is the most explosive that I've seen in a long, long time.”

Although he says it will be a “great challenge,” Freeze also said, “I’m excited as heck about it, and I know our kids will be.”

All eyes are on Auburn football right now. As Sports Illustrated has noted, “Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers are bringing in some of the best football recruits the state of Alabama has to offer.” Many of these Auburn commits are highly coveted by other organizations in the SEC.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

These guys rock. As we’ve already covered Auburn alums Anders Carlson and Daniel Carlson in today’s Brew, it’s time to go back in time and look at some other famed Tiger brothers.

Tracy Rocker was a College Football Hall of Famer, wrapping up his Auburn career as a two-time All-American and a three-time All-SEC winner as well as an SEC Player of the Year and the first conference player to ever win the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy in the same season, and Washington drafted him in the third round of the 1989 NFL Draft. Whew.

Our question today… Who was Tracy’s famous brother and fellow Auburn alum?

If you think you know the answer, scroll down to the bottom to find out.

🐅 ONE BIG THING

Six in the swamp. Y’all ready? The Auburn-LSU matchup will be intense with both teams at 3-2 for their overall records. Thankfully, Coach Freeze has used this bye week to prepare to send us on to victory.
