Bodda Getta Brew 10/3: Pearl Of Wisdom

Today, we look at how Bruce Pearl's success has turned Auburn into an everything school.

Good morning. As a three-time SEC Coach of the Year recipient, Bruce Pearl is changing the face of basketball here at Auburn—and going into his 10th year with the Tigers, he’s tied with Sonny Smith (173 wins) for third all-time.

Many have said that Coach Pearl has made Auburn a basketball school, but he’ll be the first to tell you that Auburn is an everything school.

Let’s stir the pot. What else is going into today’s Brew?

🔼 Stroke Of Good Fortune. Who doesn’t love a good Auburn Made story? Today’s is a doozie, as Auburn alums Kirsty Coventry and Cesar Cielo were inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame alongside 13 other inductees, including Michael Phelps.

Zimbabwe-born Coventry was honored for a career that included seven Olympic medals. The most successful swimmer in Brazilian history, Cielo won six World Championship gold medals and broke two world records after winning the 50-meter freestyle at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

🔼 Depth Charges. After going “toe to toe” with No. 1 Georgia, Auburn still emerges as a competitive team—so much so that Sports Illustrated ran a feature on five standout players that stood out on the Plains.

A transfer from Kansas, Marcus Harris had what SI called a “monster game,” nabbing seven tackles to go with two tackles for loss and pass deflection.

Brian Battie has been buzz-worthy with eight carries for 35 yards and three catches for 18 yards against the Dawgs.

Jaylin Simson had tongues wagging after his SEC-leading fourth interception in the Georgia game.

SI said, “Jalen McLeod had one of his best games in an Auburn uniform,” securing five tackles and a pass deflection vs. the Bulldogs.

Kicker Alex McPherson remained perfect on the season, making both field goals, one of which was a 42-yard attempt. SI referred to him as “cool, calm, and collected.”

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer:

Auburn became the Tigers based on Oliver Goldsmith's poem, "The Deserted Village,” which refers to a passage about "...where crouching tigers wait their hapless prey..." How apropos!

The term "plainsmen" refers to Auburn men and women, and it comes from the same poem. And, of course, “War Eagle” is Auburn’s battle cry.

🐅 Have a great Tuesday, y’all!
