Bodda Getta Daily Brew 3/8: Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

Auburn hoops powerhouse Jaylin Williams reflects on his time at Auburn

Good morning. “Playing that many games is a blessing,” Jaylin Williams said of breaking Frankie Sullivan’s record for most games played in program history after playing his 135th game. “But I feel like I’m more proud of being the winningest player.

“I’ve always been looked over. I always thought I was a good player, but people didn’t see me at my full potential all the time. If you’re winning, people see you more, and you get more exposed to who you are and how good of a player you are. Auburn has really helped with that.”

Williams still has one last chapter to write before the book closes on his Auburn career. And one person who will be quite emotional over that is his mother, or “Mama” as he refers to his No. 1 fan.

“She’s going to always love Auburn,” Williams said. “She’s going to probably watch more games than I am.

“It’s really been a great experience,” Williams said of his time on The Plains. “I can’t see myself anywhere except being here at Auburn.”

🔼 Not a Razor-Thin Lead. JaMya Mingo-Young flirted with a triple-double as Auburn pulled away in the second half for a 67-48 win over Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Tournament Thursday night.

"Really proud of them holding a team like Arkansas to 48 points; it's not easy," Auburn head coach Johnnie Harris said.

The Tigers will face second-seeded LSU for the third time this season tonight in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. Tip is set for 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET, with the broadcast on SEC Network and the Auburn Sports Network.

🔼 Let’s Elevate. The No. 14 Auburn gymnastics team heads back to Baton Rouge today to compete in the Podium Challenge at the Raising Cane's River Center. The meet will kick off at 6 p.m. CT, and the Tigers will face No. 3 LSU, George Washington, and Texas Woman's University.

"This is a great opportunity for us to get a taste of the postseason," head coach Jeff Graba said. "The meet is on the podium, which means its elevated just like SECs and nationals. We're going against great competition, so this is another chance for our team to improve their NQS."

🔼 Let’s Talk About the Weather. First pitch for Friday's series opener between No. 13 Auburn (10-2) and Austin Peay (10-2) has been moved up to 11:30 a.m. CT due to the weather forecast in the Auburn arena.

Please contact the ticket office by calling 855-282-2010 option 1 or emailing [email protected] with questions or for more information.

🔼 Just Plain Good Tennis. No. 12 Women's tennis will aim to remain perfect in Southeastern Conference matches this season, playing host to Missouri and Arkansas over the weekend. Auburn will face Missouri today at 3 p.m. CT and Arkansas on Sunday at noon CT.

"I'm confident that our players are going to use these matches to improve and focus on the things that we have been focusing on and continue this momentum," said Auburn interim head coach Lester Cook. "The singles lineup is still fluid. I think the girls at the top of the lineup are doing a great job of taking care of business.”

🔼 One Pitch at a Time. Southeastern Conference play has arrived as No. 25 Auburn (12-2-1) softball preps for a top-25 showdown at No. 12 Missouri (18-2) with a three-game series set at the Mizzou Softball Complex. Auburn opens the series in Columbia today at 4 p.m. CT. Game two features a 2 p.m. CT start on Saturday. Sunday's finale is slated for 12 p.m. CT.

"The conference is as tough as I've ever seen it," said head coach Mickey Dean. "Out of our 24 conference games, we play 21 against SEC teams currently ranked higher than us. We're going to take it one pitch at a time, one game at a time."

🔼 Tigers Are Beantown-Bound. Auburn track & field will send three student-athletes—graduate student Sanaa Barnes and juniors Simone Johnson and Vimbayi Maisvorewa—to The Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts, to compete in the final meet of the indoor season, the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, today and tomorrow (March 8-9). The men's heptathlon will kickstart the action at 8:30 a.m. CT today and 9:30 a.m. CT tomorrow (Saturday).

Live results for the meet will be available at FlashResults.com. ESPN+ will livestream the event starting at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday and 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

🔼 The Ball’s in Their Court. No. 35 Auburn will be on the road in conference play for the second straight weekend against No. 9 Tennessee and Georgia. The Tigers will battle the Volunteers today at 4 p.m. CT and the Bulldogs on Sunday at noon CT. Auburn will enter the second weekend of SEC matches with a three-match winning streak and an SEC opening win over Ole Miss in the books.

"It will be a tough road trip," said Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds. "We had success against Tennessee last year, but they are a great team. They are really good at No. 1 and No. 2. They also have a couple of young freshman lower in the lineup, so that will be a battle against guys that we haven't seen."

🔼 Wild Horses Couldn’t Drag Us Away. The No. 6 Auburn equestrian team will host College of Charleston and No. 2 Texas A&M today and tomorrow to close out the 2023-24 regular season at the Auburn University Equestrian Center. The Tigers will take on College of Charleston today at 11 a.m. CT in a jumping seat-only contest. Auburn and the Aggies will face off at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 9, in a full meet.

Auburn will kick off the postseason at the 2024 SEC Championship in Bryan-College Station, Texas, March 29-30.

🔼 Riders of the Plains. Sophomore Caroline Fredenburg of the No. 6 Auburn equestrian team was named the SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Month for February.

The conference honor is the second of the season for Fredenburg and of her career. The award is also Auburn's fourth of the season in the event. It’s great timing, as the Tigers close out the regular season at home this weekend, hosting College of Charleston and No. 3 Texas A&M at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
