Bodda Getta Daily Brew 4/11 - Overachievers? Nah, Just Right.

The 2024 PNC Achievers Award watch list is out, with 12 Auburn student-athletes on the list.

Good morning. The PNC Achievers program is back with 12 Auburn student-athletes on the Spring 2024 Watch List. The group was selected based on their well-rounded achievement through leadership, academic success, community engagement and in competition. The panel will trim the list to six finalists before naming one male and one female as Auburn's Spring 2024 PNC Achievers. The two winners will be recognized at an in-game ceremony.

"With their demonstrated commitment to excellence in athletics, academics and community service, these PNC Achievers honorees epitomize Auburn being Auburn," said Athletic Director John Cohen.

🔼 The Heart of Auburn. Approximately 120 Auburn Athletics representatives participated in the 14th annual Tigers Give Back community service day at Dean Road Elementary, where they assisted teachers and played games with students.

"Tigers Give Back community service day is one of our favorite days of the year," said Latisha Durroh, director of community relations. "

Athletics director John Cohen, head football coach Hugh Freeze and his assistant coaches, men's basketball coaches, and head soccer coach Karen Hoppa and her staff visited patients and encouraged workers at East Alabama Medical Center.

🔼 Nice Move, Mother Nature. After rain postponed the February trip, Auburn softball has rescheduled its road midweek date at UAB for Wednesday, April 17, at Mary Bowers Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT.

Auburn returns to Southeastern Conference play this weekend at No. 6 LSU. The three-game series begins at 6 p.m. CT on Friday in Baton Rouge.

🔼 Sporty Stice. As the final matches of the season are quickly approaching for Auburn men's tennis senior Tyler Stice, he looks back and reflects on his career and the time he has spent at Auburn over the years—a school that he wasn’t originally planning on attending.

"I was committed to play at Texas Tech my senior year of high school and then a week before school started the Texas Tech coach called me and he told me he quit to take a job," said Stice. "I had spoken to Bobby [Reynolds] before and I remember being bummed out that it did not work out at the time to play at Auburn. We established a prior relationship and a couple guys left the team for a scholarship to open and I decided to take it."

🔼 “Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.” - Bo Jackson
Auburn (18-14, 2-10 SEC) takes on its fifth straight top-10 opponent to start Southeastern Conference play with a three-game series against No. 8 Kentucky (27-5, 11-1 SEC) today through Saturday. First pitches at Plainsman Park are scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT, Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

The competition for the Tigers has been stiff. Kentucky represents Auburn's fifth consecutive top-10 opponent to start SEC play. Including Kentucky, Auburn's first five SEC opponents are currently the top five teams in the league. Auburn is the first SEC program to play five consecutive top-10 teams since Georgia in 2016. It’s no wonder the team's eight SEC games from Mar. 17-Apr. 5 were decided by a combined six runs.

War Eagle!

🔼 Saddles Up, Pens Down. The National Collegiate Equestrian Association recognized twenty-three members of the No. 3 Auburn equestrian team for their efforts in the classroom. Recipients must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of the school's meets. They also must have earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters.
