Good Morning, Auburn Family. On Wednesday at the Omni La Costa Champions Course in scenic Carlsbad, California, the Tigers defeated No. 6 Florida State 3-2 to win the 2024 NCAA Championship

Senior J.M. Butler clinched the match for the Tigers with a par putt on 17 to win 2 & 1.

After 10 tournament wins, including seven straight victories to end the season, standing triumphant atop the sport's biggest stage, the job, at last, is finished.

🔼 Thorne as Sharp as Ever. "I used to beg my dad to let me play when I was younger, but he always said no,” Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne said. “He didn't think I needed to get into real football yet, which ended up being true. But I've been throwing a football around with my dad since I could remember…"

The Illinois native, who was a three-year starter at Michigan State from 2020-22, grew up around football. His father, Jeff, and grandfather, John, were both successful coaches. Yet Payton wasn’t allowed to start playing tackle football until he was in sixth grade.

As Thorne’s time at Auburn comes to a close, it’s clear that sticking around for one more season was the best decision he could make.

“It was a no-brainer for me to do what I can to finish my career off the right way and then propel myself to hopefully play at the next level and give myself the best chance to succeed in that,” Thorne said.

Once his time at Auburn does come to an end, Thorne is aiming to play in the NFL – a lifelong dream of his. After that, he has his options a bit more open.

🔼 Fab Five Freshmen. Auburn's Anna Davis has been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-Freshman Team. Davis is one of just five players on the inaugural team.

The Auburn freshman who only just joined the team in January earned second-team All-American honors from the WGCA on Friday and second-team All-SEC honors earlier in the month. She was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team this season.

🔼 Anything But Maddie-ning. For the second consecutive season, Auburn softball's Maddie Penta has earned All-America status from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Penta earned third-team accolades after turning in a record-setting senior campaign. Her selection marked just the 17th overall NFCA All-America honor earned by a Tiger. She is the first Tiger to earn back-to-back All-America honors since Kasey Cooper and Emily Carosone both did so in 2015 and 2016. She is the only pitcher in program history to earn multiple NFCA All-America accolades.

🔼 Megan’s Major News. Auburn's Megan Schofill is set to take part in her second major championship of the year at the U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this week. The championship will be played Thursday-Sunday at Lancaster Country Club.

Schofill, who earned an exemption into the championship by winning the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur, will be one of 156 players in the tournament field and one of 21 amateur players. The tournament will consist of four stroke play rounds, with the lowest 60 finishers through the first two rounds making the 36-hole cut.
