Four Auburn natives share stories of success as student-athletes

Good Morning, Auburn Family. While mentoring freshman student-athletes this spring, senior Shaniya Holley discovered she had something in common with the star kicker of Auburn's A-Day game, Towns McGough.

"He said, 'I'm from Auburn High School," recalled Holley, a track and field student-athlete. "I said, 'I'm from Auburn High School.'"

As a CONNECT leader, AuburnYOU's one-year program to help freshman student-athletes transition to college, Holley passed on practical tips to the newcomers.

"She did a great job of showing my group how to represent yourself toward businesses with NIL,” McGough said of Holley.

In a six-week span, four Auburn High School alums made headlines on the Plains.

πŸ”Ό Inked in Auburn. With the resources available to a budding NBA superstar, Jabari Smith could've spent Saturday anywhere on the planet.

He chose to conduct a free basketball camp for boys and girls at Loachapoka High School, six miles from Neville Arena, where Smith helped Auburn win the 2022 SEC championship.  

"Auburn is home. It's tattooed on me,” said Smith, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. β€œI put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this community. I wanted to do it here. To have the first one here is a big deal for me. This is a big reason why I am the player I am today and the man I am today."

πŸ”Ό Jordan-Hare Glow-Up The Auburn University Board of Trustees has given final approval for the addition of a new state-of-the-art videoboard in the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium. The project is expected to break ground in the summer of 2024 to be completed in time for the 2025 Auburn football season.
 
This marks the first step toward modernizing the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium. The videoboard and supporting structure have been intentionally designed to stand alone behind the current seating bowl, enabling future north end zone improvement opportunities to utilize the concrete frame as part of any future projects.

πŸ”Ό Puttin’ Another Record On. Auburn freshman Marley Raikiwasa earned honorable mention all-America honors Saturday in the women's discus to conclude the Tigers' efforts at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Historic Hayward Field.
 
The 2024 outdoor championships were a memorable one as the Auburn men finished second in the team standings, its best finish at nationals since 2008 and equaling the program's best finish in program history.
 
Auburn also claimed its first-ever men's 4x100m relay national title as Azeem Fahmi, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Dario Matau and Makanakishe Charamba ran a school record 38.03, the third fastest time in collegiate history.

πŸ”Ό Home of the Trash Pandas. Another piece of Auburn softball's 2025 schedule is set as the Tigers are set to compete in the inaugural Rocket City Showcase next February at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama.
 
More than 16 games will be held at Toyota Field, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Auburn is one of four Southeastern Conference teams invited to participate in the field alongside Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Auburn Athletics' War Eagle Productions won the Sports Video Group Award for Outstanding Live Non-Game Production for its show open for the Auburn men's basketball game against Ole Miss. War Eagle Productions received the award last week at the 16th annual College Sports Media Awards in Atlanta.

The Sun Shines on Jay Will. One Motive Sports recently tweeted about Auburn product Jaylin Williams being back on the NBA Pre-Draft workout trail.
