Bodda Getta Daily Brew 2/28: Hard Knox

No. 4 Tennessee + No. 11 Auburn—SEC's 2 highest ranked teams—battle tonight

Good morning. It doesn't get much bigger than tonight’s game in Knoxville. No. 4 Tennessee and No. 11 Auburn are the SEC's two highest ranked teams. The Volunteers currently share the league lead with the Tigers a game back. A win for Auburn would put the Tigers in a position to win the regular season crown for the second time in three seasons.

If you're Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, that's all you can ask for.

"It's almost March, and we're still playing for championships," Pearl said. "We're trying to make history. We're trying to win a conference championship. I think we need to win at Tennessee to win it or to be in a position to win it."

The Tigers and the Vols will tip off at 6 p.m. CT from Thompson-Boling Arena. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

🔼 McBride Magic. Bouncing back from a hard-fought loss against a top-10 foe and a late travel schedule Sunday night, No. 14 Auburn responded by defeating Samford 12-3 Tuesday night at Plainsman Park.

"I couldn't be more pleased in how they carried themselves and how they worked yesterday, prepared for today, and then executed when they got to the game," head coach Butch Thompson said.

Conner McBride (1-0, 2.08) earned his first win in an Auburn uniform with an efficient 5.0 innings pitched. He allowed one run on two hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

"McBride set the tone. He just settled the game," Thompson said. "I thought he was in command. Sometimes the ability to command the baseball means a lot, and he had more than one pitch working."

The Tigers continue the homestand with a three-game series against UConn (2-4) Friday through Sunday at Plainsman Park.
