🔼 Hard Knox Life. Growing up in an athletic family in Nashville, Tennessee, Auburn soccer senior LJ Knox was always an all-around athlete. Still, she decided soccer would be her sport during her freshman year of high school.
When it was time for Knox to make a decision on a university, she laser-focused on the factors that mattered most—a strong athletics reputation, a competitive spirit, a supportive coaching staff, a welcoming campus atmosphere, a variety of academic programs, top-notch athletic facilities, and, lastly, the opportunity for personal growth, both athletically and academically. After careful evaluation, Knox saw that Auburn checked all of these boxes.
Read On the Plains With LJ Knox for more on how her teammates played a role in her decision to choose Auburn, her success in academics and her advice for incoming players as she prepares for her final season.
🔼 Calling Auburn Women & Auburn Men. The Auburn Athletics Department is accepting nominations for the 2024 Walter Gilbert and Pamela Sheffield Awards.
The Pamela Sheffield Award is presented annually to a woman who embodies selfless service and commitment to Auburn University and the Auburn family. The award is presented to an alumna, student, or friend whose life manifests Pam Sheffield's dedication to Auburn: love, commitment, and, above all, quality.
The award was established on April 27, 1991, by the Office of the President and the Athletic Department to honor, commemorate, and perpetuate Pamela Wells Sheffield's memory and good works.
The Walter Gilbert Award is presented each fall to one of Auburn's prominent and distinguished athletic alumni at one of the Tigers' football games.
The Walter Gilbert Award recognizes Auburn athletes who have distinguished themselves through achievements after graduation from Auburn.
Walter Gilbert was Auburn's second All-American football player. He made All-America as a center in 1934, 1935 and 1936. He was later selected for membership in the College Football Hall of Fame.
