Bodda Getta Daily Brew 11/16: Floating on McLeod 9

Today, Auburn pass-rusher Jalen McLeod receives yet another award.

Good morning. The Maxwell Football Club recognized Auburn pass-rusher Jalen McLeod as its Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In Auburn's 48-10 win at Arkansas on Saturday, McLeod led the Tigers with nine tackles, a game-best. His three sacks were the most by an Auburn player in a game since Derick Hall recorded three against Alabama in 2021.

McLeod was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week and the Pro Football Focus (PFF) National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

🔼 No Sleep Til Brooklyn. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn has been good to Auburn men's basketball in recent years. The Tigers won the Legends Classic there in 2019, knocking off New Mexico and Richmond on back-to-back nights. The Barclays Center also played host to the 2022 NBA Draft, where Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler were both selected in the first round.

This week, Auburn is hoping to keep the success going with a return to the Big Apple and the Legends Classic. The Tigers will open against Notre Dame tonight and then, depending on the outcome, play either Oklahoma State or St. Bonaventure on Friday.

It will be the first time Auburn and Notre Dame have ever played on the hardwood.

"Notre Dame is a historic program, a historic university," Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said. "Great history and tradition."

While it’s been well-documented that ND and Bonaventure fans will be a factor, Auburn will be well-represented in Brooklyn, too. The fans made their presence felt in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for the opener against Baylor to the point where Baylor head coach Scott Drew alluded to how Auburn had a "good home-court advantage."

Auburn and Notre Dame will be the second game of the night on Thursday and tip off at approximately 8 p.m. CT from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Brad Law and Randall Dickey will have the radio call on 94.3 FM, online at AuburnTigers.com, and on the Auburn app. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

🔼 Fade In on Aden. Freshman phenom Aden Holloway will be one to watch this tournament, turning in back-to-back double-figure scoring games in his collegiate debut last week, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors. The five-star recruit averaged 15 points per game and made 7 of 16 from long range in his first two career games. He scored a team-high 19 points and added six assists against No. 20 Baylor and followed that with 11 points and three assists in Auburn's 86-71 win over Southeastern Louisiana. His 19 points against Baylor were tied for fifth most among all NCAA Division I freshmen in a season opener this season.

🔼 Strokes of Genius. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its final individual rankings of the fall on Wednesday, which featured three Tigers ranked in singles as well as two Auburn duos ranked in doubles.

Senior Carolyn Ansari earned the highest singles ranking of her career on Wednesday, coming in at eighth. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native's fall was highlighted by three consecutive singles wins to reach the main draw consolation finals at the ITA All-American Championships in October. Ansari becomes the first Auburn player to be ranked within the top 10 in the Caroline Lilley era.

Sophomore DJ Bennett earned the highest singles ranking of her career at 30th . Selin Ovunc also broke into the singles rankings after posting a singles record of 5-4 and earned a ranking of 122nd in the nation.

Bennett and Ovunc together earned a doubles ranking of 30th in the country after going 5-1 together at the ITA All-American Championships and becoming the first Auburn team since 2014 to reach the quarterfinal round of the event.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Crimson Tide Saw Red. Despite the message this week from Coach Hugh Freeze to not rest on Auburn's laurels as it approaches the New Mexico State game, it’s okay for today’s trivia to focus on the upcoming Iron Bowl’s history.

Today, we turn to the infamous fumble. In one of the matchups between Auburn and Alabama in years past, Alabama fullback Ed Scissum fumbled on a screen pass that was meant to give Crimson Tide a game-clinching first down. Auburn kicker Jaret Holmes converted a go-ahead 39-yard field goal, and Alabama's last-chance attempt from 57 yards fell short, giving Auburn the SEC Western Division title.

Today’s question—what year did this occur?

🐅 ONE BIG THING

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 1997

To make the moment Auburn kicker Jaret Holmes converted a go-ahead 39-yard field goal even more dramatic, Auburn radio announcer Jim Fyffe chanted, "Long enough, high enough, It's good! it's good! it's good! it's good! it's good! it's good!"

🐅 Have a great Thursday, y’all!
