🔼 Only Good Angles. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Auburn’s Director of Football Technology & Digital Innovation Matt Hard, who was selected by his peers to be the SEC’s 2023 Video Coordinator of the Year which led to him winning at the Collegiate Sports Video Association’s annual conference back in May!

“I was shocked,” said Hard. “These are the guys I’ve looked up to in this profession.”

He doesn’t do it alone, however. Hard’s team includes a full-time staff and 13 students, all of whom coordinate to record and arrange video from multiple angles from every Auburn game and practice for the coaching staff to review and evaluate.

“The video is just a small part of this job now,” Hard said.

At the height of innovation in the new Woltosz Football Performance Center, Auburn uses remote cameras to record high-angle video.

Admittedly never a guy who was into sports, Hard’s background is interesting, as he interned at and then spent four years working for Auburn rival the University of Alabama. He made his move to Auburn in 2021.

“There’s something that’s special about working here at Auburn,” he said. “It is so easy to find here in Athletics genuine good people.”

Hard also calls the new state-of-the-art facility a “football palace,” acknowledging all the time, money and effort that went into it on behalf of Auburn Athletics donors.

🔼 Two Good. Former Auburn standouts Richard Fitts and Ryan Bliss have earned Minor League Baseball postseason honors—Fitts was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year and an Eastern League All-Star, while Bliss was tabbed a Texas League All-Star.

Rated the New York Yankees No. 12 prospect, including the No. 4 pitching prospect, Fitts spent the entirety of the 2023 season with Double-A Somerset and turned in an 11-5 record with a 3.48 ERA in 27 starts. He led the Eastern League in starts, wins, innings pitched (152.2), and strikeouts (163) and ranked third in ERA and WHIP (1.19).

A second-round pick in 2021, Bliss turned in his best season as a pro, setting career highs in every offensive category including average (.304), runs (110), hits (164) doubles (34), triples (eight), home runs (23), RBI (86) and stolen bases (55). He became one of five players in minor league baseball over the last 40 years with 20 or more home runs and 50 or more stolen bases.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 4,096!

Samford Stadium-Hitchcock Field at Plainsman Park, more commonly known as Plainsman Park, is widely thought of as one of the finest facilities in college baseball.

It was named in 1997 to honor two former Auburn players and brothers—Billy Hitchcock and Jimmy Hitchcock. Jimmy was Auburn’s first All-American in football and baseball, and he later coached the Tigers in the 1940s. Billy played a pivotal role in Auburn’s first bowl appearance in football, helped the Tigers claim their first baseball SEC title in 1937, and later became an MLB manager.
