Bodda Getta Brew 8/29: Everything The Right Way

Today, we're letting Zion Puckett tell his story in his words.

Good morning. Mother Nature’s got nothing on this weekend’s forecast. It’s a Freeze Warning on The Plains which means it’s all right to go all white at Jordan-Hare for the UMass game.

What else did we mix into today's Brew?

🔼 Talk The Talk. On the day of his first visit to an Auburn football game, Quentin Riggins had to leave early so he could flip burgers at McDonald's.

It became the mark of commitment for Riggins, who became an All-American linebacker on three SEC Championship teams. He played in the 1989 Iron Bowl, the first ever at Jordan-Hare Stadium. He spent 25 seasons patrolling the sidelines on the Auburn Football broadcast.

This summer, Riggins officially became the first African American President pre tempore of the Auburn University Board of Trustees—and he’s featured in the latest episode of Talking Tigers Podcast, brought to you by Alabama Public Health.

🔼 Everything The Right Way. Facing adversity is nothing new to fifth-year Tiger Zion Puckett. Throughout his life, the Auburn defensive back has taken challenges head on and has come out strong on the other side—and after navigating through multiple coaching staffs, a pandemic and other hardships on and off the field, he’s proud of where he is now leading up to his final season on the Plains.

“You just have to love being uncomfortable. You have to have that drive to be uncomfortable all the time. I just try to put myself in an uncomfortable position so that I can excel through it because it isn’t going to last forever.”

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Swamped ‘em. With it being just four days until Auburn kicks off its season, let’s get in the Wayback Machine and celebrate an iconic moment in Tiger football history…

Beating the Gators in Gainesville.

In 2007, an unranked Auburn team went into The Swamp and took down No. 4 Florida when this kicker nailed a 43-yard field goal as time expired.

Who was that kicker?
