🔼 Whitty Comeback. After a career primarily on special teams at Auburn, Joe Whitt Jr. followed in his father's footsteps into the coaching profession. The second-generation football coach sat down to chat with the Talking Tigers podcast hosts about his time at Auburn, his 17 years coaching in the NFL, and the possibility of getting back into the college game at some point as a head coach.

Joe Whitt Sr. spent 25 years on the Plains as a linebacker, defensive line, and defensive end coach. At one point, he told Joe Jr. that he needed to shed his reputation as a recruiter. That's when he headed to the NFL. The current Defensive Passing Game Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys bet on himself, and it’s paid dividends.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 1971!

Two of the SEC's all-time greats went toe-to-toe under center when Auburn met Ole Miss in the January 1971 Gator Bowl to wrap up the 1970 season.

The Tigers' Pat Sullivan outperformed the Rebels' Archie Manning that day in Jacksonville, Florida, passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-28 Auburn victory. Sullivan, who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy next season, also ran for a 37-yard touchdown as the sun set on Auburn’s 9-2 season.

It was the only career meeting between the two SEC icons, whose teams did not play in the regular season from 1966-71 due to conference schedule rotation.
