Bodda Getta Daily Brew 6/18: Coach J's Underdog

Taliah Scott's is all in on her move from Arkansas hoops to Auburn, and filling Honesty's shoes

Good Morning, Auburn Family. Joining a team stocked with superstars held little interest for Auburn's Taliah Scott. She wanted a challenge.

"I want to help try to elevate a program," said Scott, who signed with the Tigers on April 15 after earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors at Arkansas last season.

In her first SEC season, Scott averaged a team-high 22.1 points per game, earning SEC Freshman of the Week recognition four times. She torched the Tigers for 33 points in the Razorbacks' 74-72 win in Fayetteville on Feb. 4. With Auburn replacing departed All-American Honesty Scott Grayson, Scott embraces the opportunity to be trusted to take the last shot.

She also knows that for Coach J, the focus begins at the other end of the court.

"Defense is a huge part of this team," Scott said. "I want to put in the work. I want to be an underdog," she said.

🔼 Auburn Family Personified. If you haven’t enjoyed watching the Bostrom Family in the “Auburn Being Auburn” series, you’re missing out.

“Being at Auburn as a player and being on the staff for the last however many years has helped me be a father to my daughters,” said Jorrell Bostrom (Offensive Line, 2009-10). “It’s amazing to experience all these things with my family. Being a part of something great, it’s nice to have people to share with you.”

🔼 Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way. This is one of the most intense times for college football recruiting, and that's certainly the case for Auburn. Between official visits and camps, this time of the summer will bring numerous potential student-athletes to campus. One of the keys to the Tigers' recruiting strategy is Will Redmond—Auburn's General Manager for Player Personnel. His career began in the Sports Information Office at Tennessee. When he made the move to football, he cleaned floors at night to fund his passion for college football.

🔼 He’s Definitely Kenough. Auburn track & field men's assistant coach Ken Harnden was selected as 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Assistant Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association organization announced Monday.

Harnden, who is in his second year at Auburn, is responsible for coaching the Tigers' sprints and hurdles. He helped lead the men to a second-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, equaling the team's best finish in program history. Of the 40 points the men earned at NCAAs, 36 of those came from his unit, which was the most of any program.
