🔼 Charles In Charge. Perhaps the most famous Auburn Made athlete— Charles Barkley cohosted this week’s eighth annual Bruce, Barkley & Basketball Golf Classic alongside current hoops coach Bruce Pearl. The event raises money for special projects for the Auburn's men's basketball program.

“Thank y'all so much for being here today,” the 1984 SEC Player of the Year and 1993 NBA MVP and current TV personality said from the clubhouse balcony at Grand National prior to teeing off.

“What does it say about the fact that he's never missed the event? That he comes to town early, before the football game, that he stays afterwards?” Pearl said of Barkley’s commitment.

Barkley went on to talk about how fans now expect success from the men’s basketball program, which hasn’t always been the case, saying, "Ever since we made it to the Final Four, that changed the whole dynamic of the program. Auburn people are disappointed when we only win one [NCAA Tournament] game. It's a great time.”

He didn’t stick to basketball, however, saying of his recent trip to Jordan-Hare to watch Auburn take on No. 1 Georgia last weekend: “It was a heck of a game. I’m all in on Coach Freeze.”

🔼 Fit For A King. Continuing down the Auburn Made path—Ed King, the third player in program history to be named an All-American as a sophomore, was honored at this past Saturday’s game at Jordan-Hare Stadium for being selected as Auburn's 2023 SEC Football Legend.

We recently shared another retrospective on Coach Pat Dye’s grueling workouts, and King confirmed the fierce nature of those years.

"Playing under Coach Pat Dye, every day when you get up, are you going to win or are you going to lose?" King recalled. "Coach Dye was competitive. We would compete every day, and that's life. You're competing every day."

King, a two-time First Team All-American and unanimous selection in 1990, helped Auburn win back-to-back SEC titles in 1988 and 1989 when the Tigers posted consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time in program history. The guard twice earned First Team All-SEC honors and was a consensus All-American in 1990 before getting drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round in 1991.

🔼 All The Feels. The NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) money that athletes receive can be used for just about anything, but Auburn football player Elijah McAllister and gymnast Sophia Groth decided to use it to give back. McAllister headed up a Back to School Drive—gathering up school supplies, backpacks, and t-shirts— for an organization called Baby Steps, which empowers pregnant and parenting college students.

Going above and beyond, McAllister and his teammates spent the afternoon with the kids. There were video games, flag football, a bounce house, Kona Ice, and even an Aubie appearance.

“I think the first thing that inspired today is me growing up in the church, and the church is all about serving,” he said. “With this event, it was just me giving back to the Auburn community—a community that I’m new to, but that is going to help me and support me out there on the field with my teammates in my first year suiting up for the blue and orange.”

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Tigers vs. Tigers. In 2021, Auburn football battled their way back from a 13-0 deficit against LSU to win in Baton Rouge for the first time since… well… that’s what trivia questions are for!

Before 2021, when was the last time that Auburn had won on the road against LSU?

🐅 ONE BIG THING

A leg up. Auburn punter Oscar Chapman was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for Week 5.

Chapman punted five times this past Saturday against Georgia for a total of 256 yards. The senior had a long punt of 71 yards at the end of the first half that was downed at the Georgia 4-yard line. It was tied for the third-longest punt in Auburn history and matched the number for the longest punt in the SEC this season.

He currently ranks fifth in the SEC averaging 42.2 yards on 21 punts through the team's first five games.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 1999

You can’t talk about that 2021 victory without talking about Bo Nix’s impressive play that day—who not only threw for 255 yards and a score in the air, but led the game in rushing with 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

“We couldn’t tackle Bo Nix,” LSU linebacker Damone Clark said after the game. “That’s the biggest thing.”

🐅 Have a great Wednesday, y’all!
