🔼 Exhibit A. You might think, “Well, it was just an exhibition game,” about Auburn women’s basketball win over West Georgia 77-49 on Monday night at Neville Arena. The truth is, all signs point to a strong team, particularly the level of play by some newcomers.

Taylen Collins led four Tigers in double figures as Auburn unofficially opened the 2023-24 women's basketball season.

A 15-point night from Collins off the bench joined strong efforts up and down the roster as a team laden with newcomers got to play together for the first time on their home floor.

"I thought our team played pretty hard," Auburn head coach Johnnie Harris said. "We made some mistakes, but I thought our chemistry was good. We caused some turnovers. I would like to see us score more off those turnovers. But for the most part, I was pleased with our effort."

Auburn wraps up the exhibition slate this Thursday, Nov. 2, against Columbus State. Game time is 7 p.m. CT at Neville Arena, and admission is free.

🔼  Scheer Domination. Eureka, Missouri native Madison Scheer collected her second and third-straight 20-kill performances over the weekend, earning wins over rivals Georgia and Alabama in the process. The SEC has announced Scheer as the Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts on Monday.

Scheer has picked up the weekly honor for the third time in her career. She won the award earlier this season after iconic matches against then No. 9 Florida and South Carolina, also landing AVCA National Player of the Week honors. Scheer also earned the honor during her freshman campaign following a pair of stellar showings against the Crimson Tide.

Up next: The Tigers play Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Nov. 5—game time is 3 p.m. CT.

🔼 Sweating The Small Stuff. "I'm excited to sit here with an SEC win, for sure," head football coach Hugh Freeze said of the win over State in his weekly press conference. "I'm proud of the improvement that I thought our kids showed and the job our staff did. I think it's a direct reflection of accountability to little things that we are trying to instill in the way we operate on a daily basis here. It's good to see them have success on the field, and hopefully, we can grow from that."

Freeze is not taking Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt lightly, either. Playing on the road in the SEC is never easy, and the Commodores have played better at home this season, staying competitive with the likes of Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia.

"It's a difficult place to play, and it's got my full attention,” Freeze said of FirstBank Stadium in Nashville. “Hopefully, our kids will be mature enough to approach this with the same hunger that they did last week."

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Eight!

The Tigers have won 12 conference championships (eight SEC). Positivity in numbers abounds, as they’ve also had seven perfect seasons and six outright Western Division championships (1997, 2000, 2004, 2010, 2013, 2017) since the division of the conference in 1992—along with three additional co-championships.

🐅 Have a great Wednesday, y’all!
