🔼 Jaguars Tamed By Tigers. Defense wins championships, and it certainly won the Alabama Showdown for Auburn (10-1, 0-0) as the Tigers knocked off South Alabama (4-6, 0-0) in four sets, 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23) behind 14 blocks and 92 digs.

Brent Crouch and the Tigers’ defense carried over from their performance on Friday into Saturday afternoon’s affair inside Bartow Arena. Three big blocks had Auburn up early in set No. 1.

🔼 Clean Sheets For Days. Thanks to the boot of sophomore Jordyn Crosby and an all-out effort from the defense, No. 6 Auburn soccer picked up its ninth win of the season as the Tigers (9-0-1, 1-0-1) knocked off Florida (3-2-5, 0-1-1) in a tight 1-0 match Sunday afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

“It wasn’t the prettiest win we’ve ever had, but any win against an SEC team is a big win,” Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said.

Crosby poked in her fourth career game-winner in the 65th minute following a free kick from 12 yards outside the box. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska made two saves, including a clutch one-versus-one kick save in the final minutes of the first half, solidifying Auburn’s ninth clean sheet of the season.

🔼 A Time-Tested Tiger Trio. In any other position group, fifth-year seniors Rivaldo Fairweather and Brandon Frazier would be the elder statesmen.

When the Auburn tight ends meet, Fairweather and Frazier rank second in seniority behind Luke Deal, who arrived on the Plains in 2019 and is in his sixth season with the Tigers.

“They mean the world to not only me and my family, but I know they love Auburn a lot,” tight ends coach Ben Aigamaua said of the time-tested Tiger trio. “The standard they’ve set in that room from the get-go, they’ve set everything for the guys in the future.

Go here for more on this talented trio, including Luke’s time away to welcome his son, Rivaldo’s recent TD tribute to his brother and Brandon’s marriage to former Auburn volleyball student-athlete Jackie Barrett.

🔼 Defend the Brand. KeAndre Lambert-Smith made two second-half touchdown receptions, but five turnovers cost Auburn a 24-14 loss to Arkansas Saturday at sold-out Jordan-Hare Stadium in the Tigers’ SEC opener.

“We can’t turn the football over, and we can’t continue to give up third-and-longs,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said. “It really comes down to those two things in this game.”

The Tigers (2-2, 0-1) conclude their season-opening five-game homestand next Saturday when new SEC member Oklahoma visits Jordan-Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m. CT.

“We get ready to play and defend the brand, Auburn,” Freeze said. “We’ve got a chance against a top-20 team.”
