Bodda Getta Daily Brew 9/20: "Big Boy Ball"

The Auburn football season ramps up as SEC play begins against Arkansas at home

Good Morning, Tigers. Auburn’s locker room celebration Saturday night following its victory over New Mexico was short-lived as the team quickly turned its attention to the start of SEC play and Arkansas.

“It’s big boy ball,” Auburn linebacker Keyron Crawford said.

The Tigers will have the advantage of playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium again this week, an advantage that Freeze doesn’t take lightly.

“Our fans were incredible again last week,” head coach Hugh Freeze said during his most recent press conference.

Saturday’s SEC opener will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT.

🎥 WAREAGLE+: THE FLIGHT

The Flight - Football (S. 2, Ep. 3)
This week, it's Homecoming on The Plains—let’s enjoy an exclusive sit-down with Auburn's new starting quarterback, Hank Brown, and a behind-the-scenes look at the Tigers’ win over New Mexico.

🔼 Owl Be Seeing You On the Hardwood. Auburn men’s basketball will host the FAU Owls in a charity exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. CT at Neville Arena. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Auburn University Melton Scholars Program. The Melton Scholars Program was launched in 2023 and recently merged with the Together We Will Scholarship, which was created in 2020 to help increase access for underrepresented students at Auburn.

“I would like to thank the NCAA for their wisdom and willingness to support this game,” head coach Bruce Pearl said. “We are going to make a tremendous impact.”

Because of the exhibition game’s charity focus, it will be sold as a standalone game separate from the men’s basketball season-ticket package. Season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase their seat locations for the exhibition.

We’ll let you know soon about the purchase process and deadline. In early October, all remaining inventory will be sold to the public.

🔼  Showed Up For the Showdown. Behind Lauren Dreves’ third double-double of the season (15 kills, 16 digs), Auburn (8-1, 0-0) kicked off the Alabama Showdown with a 3-0 (25-18, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17) win over Samford (5-3, 0-0)

“I was happy with the way we started the match off,” head coach Brent Crouch said after the match. “We came out with great energy and executed in the way I wanted to see. I needed to challenge them a little bit after that second set, and again, they responded.”

🔼 It’s a Draw. Auburn soccer (8-0-1) struck for a pair of first-half goals, but it was not enough to secure a victory as the No. 6 Tigers surrendered their first two scores of the season to draw Vanderbilt (5-0-3) at 2-2 Thursday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

Per SEC rules, both teams leave the match having earned one point toward the league standings.

Up next, Auburn hosts Florida for another tough intraconference matchup on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. CT.

🔼 Hank the Tank. THREE QUESTIONS WITH QB HANK BROWN: 👇🏼

Q: Take us through your first start at Auburn.

A: There was a lot going on Saturday. Just being able to lock in and focus on what Coach [Hugh] Freeze and Coach [Kent] Austin were telling me from a decision-making standpoint and going out there and trying to execute to the best of my abilities. But after the game, being able to celebrate with the team and celebrate with my family. Now, I’m obviously looking forward to Arkansas.
