Bodda Getta Daily Brew 8/14: Lean, Mean Eugene (Part Two)

Another day, another preseason watch list for Auburn's Eugene Asanta—this time, the Butkus Award

Good Morning, Auburn Family. No, you’re not experiencing deja vu. It’s another recognition for Auburn senior Eugene Asante. Named to a national award preseason watch list for the second consecutive day, Asante is one of 51 candidates for the Butkus Award, presented annually to college football’s top linebacker.

Tuesday’s Butkus Award recognition follows Monday’s selection to the preseason watch list for the Bednarik Award, presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football.

Auburn’s leading tackler last season, the 6-1, 219-pound Asante recorded 86 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.

We’ve got quite a Brew for you. Check it out below!

Fall Camp Live (Ep. 2)
Fall camp continues as Auburn prepares for Kickoff on the Plains. Join Brad Law and Director of Football Operations Mikel Riggs as they break down the first scrimmage, and Jeff Shearer catches up with Jeremiah Wright, Malcolm Simmons, Kayin Lee, and Eugene Asante.

🔼 Listen Up, Fam. A self-proclaimed family man, nobody is a better fit for Auburn than transfer defensive lineman Philip Blidi. And that includes the family members joining him in making a home in Auburn this summer—his wife, Emma, and children Amara and Brooks.

“I wanted to go somewhere that my family was welcome, a family-oriented place, a family-oriented community,” Blidi explained about the criteria he prioritized in making a transfer from Indiana.

“I have to be able to take care of my family. I met my wife, Emma, at Texas Tech. She’s been very supportive and made it easy for me to chase my dreams.”

Those dreams have been fueled by football for as long as Blidi can remember.

“I’ve loved football ever since I was a kid.”

Read On the Plains With Philip Blidi for more on his time in a children’s home, how football has helped him tackle adversity and his goals for his final college football season.

🔼 Two Talented Tennis Tigers. Auburn women’s tennis has added international star Alice Battesti and graduate transfer Ava Hrastar to the 2024-25 roster, Tigers head coach Jordan Szabo announced. Szabo has now signed four players since being named head coach, as he inked Merna Refaat and Emma Tothová in July.

Battesti will join the Tigers from the University of Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France. She claimed France’s U18 Vice Championship in 2023 as well as the French University Tennis Championship earlier this year.

Hrastar began her collegiate career at Georgia Tech, where she compiled a 35-23 overall singles record and a 38-24 overall doubles record over three seasons.
