How Auburn Gymnastics' "DJ Cassie" Stevens got the opportunity to cut Suni Lee's Olympics music
Good Morning, Auburn Family. When the music plays while Suni Lee competes on floor in Thursday's all-around final at the Paris Olympics, her former Auburn teammate Cassie Stevens will know every note by heart.
For Auburn’s gymnasts, head coach Jeff Graba typically edits the music for their floor routines until last year, when Stevens switched into DIY mode.
“I’m a ‘how hard can it be?’ kind of person,” Stevens said. “If you want something done a certain way, you’ve got to learn to do it yourself.”
Thus began Stevens’ career as DJ Cassie, the go-to music editor for Auburn Gymnastics.
When Lee competed in her floor routine at the USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials, Stevens watched – and listened – intently. After, Stevens posted on Twitter:
“Cool new floor music @sunisaee,” Stevens wrote. “Who cut it?”
“SO GOOD,” Lee replied 90 minutes later.
“That was cool for her to respond,” Stevens said. “I thought she would be too busy with all of her Olympic things.”

🔼 The Go-To Gridiron Guy. “I heard stories about what it was like here [at Auburn],” fifth-year linebacker Dorian Mausi Jr. said. “When I visited with Coach [Hugh] Freeze, he told me that he wanted me to help bring up the young guys…That was what really persuaded me, and I loved that.”
What better time in Auburn football’s history to grow in leadership than now? With a team full of talented freshmen hungry to learn and get better, Mausi is poised to guide this group through the rigors of fall camp and a Southeastern Conference football season.
“I’ve been so impressed by the young guys because they’ve come in with a plan, knowing where they want to go,” Mausi said. “And that’s what I’m here for.”
Read On the Plains With Dorian Mausi Jr. for more on his work with the Sound Mind Sound Body Academy, his love of psychology and how the mind works and what he loves about the South.
🔼 No Summer Slump Detected. After an outstanding summer season with Tennessee Soccer Club, Auburn’s Anna Haddock was named the USL W League Player of the Year.
Haddock was a force in the midfield for TSC, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 11 others in nearly 1,000 minutes of competition. She scored the game-winner in two different 1-0 victories and scored both goals in her squad’s 2-1 win over Birmingham Legion, which clinched a playoff berth.
Haddock returns to the collegiate pitch for one final season, leading the Tigers as a third-year captain.
🔼 Before the Plains, There Was Paris. Incoming freshman Emily Hallifax proved why she is one of the most exciting diving prospects in recent years, finishing eighth in the 10m synchronized diving event with her partner Jade Gillet.
Hallifax marked the third Auburn diver to compete in the Olympics. Jose Rocha represented Mexico on the platform in the 1984 games, and Cesar Garcia was part of Team USA in 2004. This young talent will join head diving coach John Fox and the rest of the Auburn Tigers this fall.
