Bodda Getta Daily Brew 12/3: Move Over, Sir Charles

Johni Broome moved past Charles Barkley for 28th on Auburn’s career scoring list, securing SEC Player of the Week honors.

Good Morning, Auburn Family. For the second time this season, senior All-American and National Player of the Year contender Johni Broome earned SEC Player of the Week honors. He led Auburn to the program’s first Maui Invitational title with dominating wins over Iowa State, North Carolina and Memphis.

The forward/center became the first Auburn player to record five straight double-doubles since the late Jeff Moore in 1988 and moved past Charles Barkley for 28th on Auburn’s career scoring list.

The Tigers are off to a 7-0 start for the third time in the last six seasons.

Talking Tigers - Kenyatta Watson
Kenyatta Watson is Auburn Football’s Director of Recruiting Research & Strategy. He plays a pivotal role for the Tigers as they zero in on another Top 10 recruiting class this week. Watson played at Boston College and has worked at Georgia Tech and FSU before coming to the Plains. His motto is “Recruit or die.”

Kenyatta Watson is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 Let the Wild Rumpus Start. Bruce Pearl stepped off the plane and approached the Auburn fans who greeted him at the airport on March 18, 2014.

“Whatever we do,” Pearl told the crowd, “let’s do it together.”

In the ensuing 10 years, Pearl would lead the Tigers to four Southeastern Conference championships and a trip to the Final Four, a remarkable turnaround chronicled in the War Eagle+ documentary “Make History: The Revival of Bruce Pearl and Auburn Basketball.”

Beginning with his childhood in Boston, “Make History” documents Pearl’s journey to the Plains, his faith, philanthropy and the outreach that led to the creation of one of college basketball’s famed student sections – The Jungle.

After practice Monday evening, Pearl joined Auburn University students, Tigers Unlimited donors and Auburn Athletics staff at Langdon Hall for the premiere of the documentary, streaming this evening at 5 p.m. CT on War Eagle+, the official content network for the Auburn Tigers.

🔼 Writing the Book on Resilience. Auburn soccer senior Sammie Brown grew up in a soccer family, born into the program at West Virginia University, where her mother, Nikki Izzo-Brown, led the Mountaineers as head coach. She found her love of the game at those matches, training sessions, road trips and team banquets, experiencing first-hand how a successful Division I program operated.

When the time came for Brown to make her own decision about playing at the next level, she opted to write her own story and enroll at Auburn, 720 miles southwest of her Morgantown bubble.

Read On the Plains With Sammie Brown for more on what drew her to Auburn, the impact of being diagnosed with a rare disease and playing alongside her younger sister, Gracie.
