Bodda Getta Daily Brew 11/5: Auburn WBB Wins Opener Handily
Audia Young and DeYona Gaston stand out as Auburn takes down Southern Illinois in season opener
Good Morning, Tigers. Auburn All-American Carolyn Jones-Young, a two-time SEC Player of the Year and a star on two Final Four teams, served as celebrity letter holder during a timeout in the season opener. A few minutes later and a few feet away, CJ’s daughter Audia Young, wearing her mom’s No. 21, hit one of her three 3-pointers.
The younger Young scored a career-high 11 points to help Auburn defeat Southern Illinois 65-31 Monday in Tipoff on The Plains at Neville Arena.
In her Auburn debut, transfer DeYona Gaston led four Tigers in double figures with 14 points.
Two wins away from 1,000 program victories, Auburn (1-0) attempts to get closer to the milestone Friday when the Tigers host Virginia University-Lynchburg at 6 p.m. CT.
Wait until you see what else we have mixed into the Brew today. Check it out below!

Talking Tigers - On to Victory with Cam Coleman and Brett Whiteside
Freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman is part of the Freeze Four, a talented quartet of receivers who signed to play with the Tigers this season. They are in a pivotal freshman class that contributes to offense, defense and special teams for the 2024 Tigers. Coleman will have NIL opportunities for the entirety of his career at Auburn.
On To Victory is Auburn’s NIL collective. Brett Whiteside is the Executive Director of On To Victory. For the remainder of this calendar year, On to Victory has a matching drive for the future of NIL at Auburn. Cam Coleman, Brett Whiteside & On To Victory are featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast.
🔼 Speed Comes in Threes. Following successful performances at the 2024 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships last Friday in Bryan-College Station, Texas, three Tigers have earned all-SEC honors. Senior Ryan Kinnane was named to the men’s second team, while freshman Nickson Chebii earned men’s second team and all-freshman honors. Freshman Brenda Jepchirchir was named to the women’s second team and the women’s all-freshman team.
Making his SEC championships debut, Chebii ran his best race of the season, placing ninth overall, crossing the 8k finish line in 22:44.90. Competing in his final SEC cross country meet, Kinnane delivered the best 8k time of his collegiate career to finish 14th (23:02.30). Jepchirchir put together her best 6k race with a fifth-place finish, crossing in 19:13.60, and was the first freshman to complete the course.

🔼 A Crewbie Newbie. A new era of Auburn softball is beginning under the direction of co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux, and with them are eight new Tigers on The Plains looking to help make a mark in year one.
The final newcomer to the 2025 roster, Kylie Brockman, joined the Tigers after competing at Arkansas during her freshman season. Raised in Kansas City, Kansas, this multi-sport athlete was a two-time powerlifting state champion and a Kansas 5A state runner-up in javelin.
Q: Why did you decide Auburn was the best fit to continue your collegiate career?
Brockman: One of them is the culture and atmosphere that coach Chris and Kate are bringing to the team. This is a place where I can be loved, pushed to my highest potential, and become the best softball player and woman I can be…
