Bodda Getta Daily Brew 11/22: Night Games Hit Different

The Auburn football team is looking forward to the electric atmosphere that a night game offers as they take on Texas A&M

Good Morning, Auburn Family. There’s something different about playing under the lights in Jordan-Hare Stadium. You can throw out the records and rankings. It takes one of college football’s most intimidating home environments and raises it to another level.

Jordan-Hare Stadium will be rocking tomorrow night as Auburn hosts No. 15 Texas A&M for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. It’s the first SEC night game at home for the Tigers this season.

“It’s going to be an electrifying crowd,” senior edge Jalen McLeod. “It's an extremely special atmosphere,” added quarterback Payton Thorne.

For McLeod, Thorne, and the other 27 seniors on the team, it will likely be their last time playing in Jordan-Hare Stadium. As part of Senior Day, the group will be honored before the game.

🔼 “Overcomers” Unite. Tiger Walking into Neville Arena for the Hudson Family Foundation Legends Club Celebration, 1,200 elementary school students from Auburn, Opelika and Lee County high-fived Aubie Thursday morning while marching between the Auburn University spirit squad to their right and the pep band to their left.

Nominated by their teachers, each of the students received a $100 Kroger gift card to help provide Thanksgiving dinner for their families. After a video displaying his 1992 Olympic gold medal performance in the 400-meter relay, Auburn track and field coach Leroy Burrell congratulated and encouraged the students.

“You are getting a reward for being an overcomer. I want to give you a hand and thank you for being an overcomer, for being an achiever, for being great when it mattered most. When nobody else was looking, you did the right thing.”

🔼 Do It For Johnnie. The Auburn women’s basketball team continues its two-game West Coast trip tonight when the Tigers travel from Oregon to Berkeley, California, to face the Cal Bears. Game time is 8 p.m. CT/6 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion. An Auburn dub would be the 50th head coaching win for Johnnie Harris!

Auburn (3-1) is coming off a close loss at No. 23 Oregon Wednesday night that saw the Tigers rally from a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to get within one possession in the final minute.

🔼 Bucking the System. No. 24 Auburn soccer eyes a rematch with No. 10 Ohio State as the Tigers and Buckeyes are set to clash in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament today at 1 p.m. CT from Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

Today’s match will be the first time the squads have met up during the postseason. Auburn is 14-17-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and will be making its first appearance in the second round since 2017. A win would set the Tigers up for a date with the winner of the Wake Forest/Colorado match on Sunday, Nov. 24. Sunday’s match will also be played at Spry Stadium, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CT.

🔼 The Meet of the Matter. Prepped and ready for the most meaningful fall meet, head coach Ryan Wochomurka and the Auburn Tigers head to Atlanta and historic McCauley Aquatic Center in Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational today through Sunday. Prelims are scheduled for 9 a.m. CT each morning, and finals are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile app, and the meet will be streamed live on the ACC Network Plus.

Entering the weekend, Wochomurka’s men earned the No. 15 ranking in the country in the latest CSCAA Coaches Poll, while the women moved up to No. 18.

🔼 In Pursuit of Perfection. The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team will conclude the fall portion of the 2024-25 season on the road today, traveling to No. 6 Georgia for a 1 p.m. CT Southeastern Conference contest. The Tigers and the Bulldogs will face off at the UGA Equestrian Center in Bishop, Georgia.

Auburn is looking to cap the fall with a perfect record, as the team is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
