🎾 Men’s and Women’s tennis teams nab several singles victories over the weekend
🐅 And much, much more!
🔼 Dreves’ Drive Not Quite Enough. Freshman Lauren Dreves (10 kills, 13 digs) dialed up her fifth double-double of the season, but it was not enough to get Auburn (13-2, 3-1) past Texas A&M (11-2, 2-1) as the Tigers dropped their first SEC bout of the year, 3-1 (25-20, 18=25, 25-21, 25-19). Along with her ten kills, Dreves secured her fifth double-double of the season.
Auburn Volleyball’s weekend was still impressive, however. Timely aces and clutch performances led No. 24 Auburn (13-1, 3-0) over rival Georgia (6-6, 0-2) for the fifth straight time, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23) on Friday.
🔼 Let’s Keep the Golf Ball Rolling. No. 6 Women’s Golf will participate in the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah for the second time in three seasons today and tomorrow at the historic Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. Auburn will enter the event with momentum, finishing first and second in its first two events of the fall schedule. The opening round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Anna Davis was the team’s top performer in both tournaments, earning a runner-up individual finish in each. Redshirt junior Casey Weidenfeld will look to build on her season debut at the Schooner Fall Classic, where she recorded her third career top-5 finish with a couple rounds of 2-under (68).
🔼 Wahoo, Indeed. Auburn completed its time at the Wahoowa Invitational on Sunday after posting 11 singles wins and two doubles wins over the three-day event.
Ava Hrastar had a perfect weekend for the Tigers, winning all three of her singles matches, while Natalie Outcalt also went undefeated in singles in two matches.
🔼 Singles Success. Auburn Men’s Tennis players tallied seven singles wins and two doubles victories over the weekend at the SEC/Big 12 Challenge in Waco, Texas. Freshman Alex Frusina posted a perfect 3-0 singles record and won two of his three doubles matches in his collegiate debut at the event.
Frusina will travel to Louisville to participate in the Louisville ITF 25K this week, while the next event on the schedule for the remainder of the team is the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Oct. 17-22 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
🔼 Tackling the Second Half of the Season. Despite Jarquez Hunter rushing for 91 yards and a touchdown, No. 5 Georgia defeated Auburn 31-13 in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry Saturday at Sanford Stadium.
"We've got to play and coach better," Auburn coach Hugh Freeze said. "We need to rest our minds and bodies a couple days, and then we need to find out who's ready to go to work, and try to have a better second half of the season."
After an open date next Saturday, Auburn (2-4, 0-3) remains on the road Oct. 19 at No. 9 Missouri.
