Bodda Getta Daily Brew 10/4: Your Destiny is Not a Mystery

These were Coach Hugh Freeze's words as the team prepped for the upcoming game against Georgia

Good Morning, Tigers. “Your destiny is not a mystery. It’s a decision.”

After a tough loss to Oklahoma last Saturday, Coach Hugh Freeze stood in the team room this week and delivered that message to his players.

Yes, the Oklahoma loss hurt. Freeze said as much during his Monday press conference. But he also pointed out plenty of positive takeaways from that game to build from.

“If you look at 90 percent of the plays, there are a lot of really good things that I hope can carry over as we get ready for a top-ranked team in Georgia,” Freeze said.

🔼 Auburn Men. Nearly a decade after they first met as Auburn football teammates, former receivers Will Hastings and James Owens Moss reunited Saturday at Pat Dye Field.

Moss awarded his Hastings the 13th James Owens Courage Award, named after Moss’ grandfather, and presented annually to a current or former Auburn football player who has displayed courage in the face of adversity, distinguishing himself while contributing to the betterment of Auburn University.

“Receiving an award named after James Owens, the first Black player here, is an honor,” Hastings said.

🔼 Okay, So Here’s the Deal. Three Questions With Luke Deal 👇🏼

Q: How do you feel like going on the road and playing at Georgia could help this team?

A: For one, it just brings the team together. When you go on the road with your guys, knowing that it’s you against the world, you really have that feeling of, “I can’t let this guy down because he’s depending on me. He’s only one of 80 people against 100,000 in the stadium that’s depending on me.

“I personally enjoy going into hostile environments on the road. Growing up, seeing all these different stadiums, being able to play in all these different stadiums, with the fans screaming at you, I think it’s pretty fun. I think some of our young guys are going to have to embrace it to start but then start to settle in.”

🔼 Georgia On Our Minds. Back in the top 25, Auburn (12-1, 2-0) welcomes rival Georgia (6-5, 0-1) into Neville Arena TONIGHT. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT, and admission is free.

The Bulldogs’ greatest threat this season comes at the service line, as UGA sits third in the conference and 24th in the nation in the number of aces, averaging 1.91 per set.

All time, Georgia owns a 39-25 record against Auburn with a 16-12 mark on the Plains. However, the Tigers have won each of the last four meetings against the Bulldogs and 11 of the last 15 matchups.

Brent Crouch knows how to coach in a rivalry matchup. Since arriving on the Plains, Crouch is a perfect 7-0 against Alabama and 5-1 versus Georgia.

🔼 Welcome to Our Not-So-Humble Abode. Auburn Gymnastics and Neville Arena will again play host in the postseason, serving as one of four NCAA Regional Championship sites in 2028.

The NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee announced Wednesday that Neville Arena will host the postseason event as part of the NCAA championship bid process. The regional sites for 2027 and 2028 were a part of today’s announcement.

The Tigers hit the road for the first time this season, heading to South Carolina next week for a Southeastern Conference matchup. Auburn and the Gamecocks will face off on October 11 in Blythewood, South Carolina.

🔼 Conference V. Conference. Men’s tennis will represent the Southeastern Conference in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge today through Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

Southeastern Conference teams Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Texas A&M will face Big 12 schools Oklahoma State, Baylor, Arizona, Texas Tech and Arizona State. Each team will have two doubles pairs and four singles players in the event.

🔼 Where My “Woo Girls” At? Auburn will continue its fall season over the weekend at the Wahoowa Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Alice Battesti, Julie Bedard, Ava Esposito, Ava Hrastar, Natalie Outcalt and Emma Tothová will participate in the event from Friday to Sunday.

The Tigers will kick off the event at 2 p.m. CT against players from Virginia on Friday, then play opponents from James Madison starting at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday. Auburn will close the event with matches starting at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday against players from Princeton and Ole Miss. Each day will feature both singles and doubles matches.
