Jarquez Hunter scored two TDs and rushed for 278 yards as Auburn defeated Kentucky
Good Morning, Tigers. Jarquez Hunter rushed for a career-high 278 yards, and Auburn scored 24 straight points to defeat Kentucky 24-10 Saturday at Kroger Field, the Tigers’ first SEC victory. Hunter scored two second-half touchdowns and averaged 12.1 yards per carry on 23 rushes to help the Tigers earn their 10th consecutive win at Kentucky.
“The coaches did a great job preparing us for this week. The receivers did an excellent job of perimeter blocking,” said Hunter, who delivered the fourth-best rushing performance in program history. “I give them all the praise because they made it happen for me."

🔼 A Slow But Satisfying Burn. Behind a second-half surge, the preseason No. 11-ranked Auburn men’s basketball team blew past Furman, 83-62, in exhibition play on Sunday afternoon at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. It was a low-scoring first half, as the Tigers went 10-of-36 from the field and the Paladins 8-of-23. By halftime, Auburn found its rhythm and built a 36-29 lead.
All-American big man Johni Broome led the way for the Tigers with an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double performance against the Paladins. He was one of five players in double figures, including freshman guard Tahaad Pettiford, who scored 13 in his Auburn debut.
🔼 Set Up For Near Success. Junior outside hitter Madison Scheer became the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills on Sunday afternoon. However, Auburn’s late rally wasn’t enough for the Tigers (14-6, 4-5) to get by South Carolina (12-6, 3-4) in four sets, 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 16-25, 25-20).
Hometown favorite Bella Bell was one of the bright spots offensively for the Tigers in set No. 1. The Blythewood product found three kills to lead the Tigers on her six swings.
🔼 Fuel For the Fire. Despite a mighty effort on both ends of the ball, No. 13 Auburn soccer (12-2-4, 4-2-4) dropped its regular-season finale, falling 2-1 to No. 22 South Carolina Sunday evening at Stone Soccer Stadium.
🗣 “We had opportunities to win the game, but we didn’t get it done. Credit South Carolina, they made the most of their chances. It’s something we’re going to have to learn from and build on. It’ll become fuel for our fire as we head into the SEC Tournament.” - Karen Hoppa, head coach

🔼 On the Right Course. Auburn men’s golf senior Ryan Eshleman has been named the recipient of the 2024 Tom Cousins Award. The Tom Cousins Award is given annually to one male and one female student-athlete from a participating team at the East Lake Cup who best exemplifies the civic, community and philanthropic qualities of East Lake founder Tom Cousins.
Eshleman is a two-time member of the SEC Community Service Team (2023, 24) and the chair of the Community Engagement Committee on Auburn's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. In the spring of 2024, he was granted the Auburn Sportsmanship Award for his outstanding character on and off the course.
🔼 The Elite Fleet. As a reward for being one of the final four teams standing at last season’s NCAA Championship, No. 2 Auburn men’s golf has been invited to conclude the fall slate at the prestigious East Lake Cup this week, today through Wednesday, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Tigers will compete alongside No. 11 Georgia Tech, No. 12 Florida State and RV Ohio State. A single stroke-play round today will determine the seedings. Following Tuesday’s pair of matches, the winning teams will face off in Wednesday’s championship match. The losing squads will play each other in a consolation match on Wednesday.
🗣 “Only the elite get to play at East Lake, and we want to show that we are the best of the best.” - Nick Clinard, Auburn head men’s golf coach
🔼 Trotting Away With a Dub. The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team traveled to No. 10 UT Martin for a Saturday contest and came away with a 14-6 victory over the Skyhawks. The win pushed the top-ranked Tigers to 4-0 on the year. The squad won all four events against the Skyhawks, going 8-2 in Jumping Seat and 6-4 in Western.
Auburn saw a handful of new faces pick up their first career wins in junior Lauren Hall and freshmen Sadie Berkhout and Catie Reachard. In addition, freshman Michelle Fumagalli came away with another victory in Reining. Freshman Ariana Marnell also made her Auburn debut, competing in Fences.
🔼 Kidd’s Play. Impressive times and scores from the Auburn Tigers lit up the leaderboard inside Koury Natatorium on Friday afternoon. The Orange and Blue women earned their second dual win of the season, 154-146, over North Carolina, while the men dropped their bout, 169-131.
Wins came early and often for the women’s team. Before anyone stepped on the blocks, it was Kyleigh Kidd who put the first points on the board for the Tigers in the 3-meter diving competition. Her 298.28 edged out UNC for first, while teammate Abigail Farrar locked in third place with a 289.88.
