Auburn Football looks to keep their winning streak on Wildcats' turf going

Good Morning, Tigers. On the bus ride to the airport after the Missouri game last Saturday, senior wide receiver Robert Lewis sent a text to his teammates. “That’s on me,” he told them. Lewis dropped a would-be touchdown late in the third quarter. Jerrin Thompson and Malik Blocton owned up to mistakes they made on Missouri’s game-winning drive.

It would be easy for Auburn to point fingers at this point in the season. Instead, the players are taking accountability for their mistakes and working every day to correct them.

“The name on your back is what you came here to play for, but once you made the connections with your brothers on this team, you’re fighting for the name on the front,” pass-rusher Keldric Faulk said.

The Tigers will have another chance to play for the name on the front this weekend as they travel to Kentucky for a third straight SEC road game.

🏈 Three Questions With Cam Coleman
⚽️ Tigers finished the season without a loss on the home turf after draw with Georgia
🐅 And much, much more!

🎥 WAREAGLE+: THE FLIGHT

The Flight - Football (S. 2, Ep. 7)
This week, the Freeze Four are featured. Meet the group of freshman receivers and find out what each brings to the team. You’ll also take in a recap of Auburn's trip to Missouri and play some video games with Cam Coleman.

🔼  Pitch Pretty Dang Perfect. For the first time since 2003, Auburn soccer completed the regular season without a single loss on home turf as the No. 13 Tigers finished the year 8-0-3 at the Auburn Soccer Complex with a 2-2 draw against Georgia Thursday night.

Auburn found its goals from seniors Anna Haddock and Mallory Mooney in minutes 13 and 71, but a final-minute score from the Bulldogs was enough to send both squads away with one point and the draw.

Up next, Auburn heads to Columbia, South Carolina, for the regular season finale with the No. 22 Gamecocks. Kickoff from Stone Stadium is set for 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 27.

🔼  Big Play Dre is On the Way. KeAndre Lambert-Smith is well aware of his opportunity to end a quarter-century drought. Ronney Daniels, in 1999, became the second Auburn receiver to produce a thousand-yard season. Terry Beasley did it first, in 1970. To reach 1,000, Lambert-Smith must average 94.8 yards per game in Auburn’s five remaining regular-season contests.

“It definitely would be a blessing,” Lambert-Smith said. “Everybody keeps reminding me of it.”

With 526 receiving yards through seven games, Lambert-Smith’s 75.1-yards-per-game average ranks No. 5 in the SEC, as does his gaudy 20.3 yards-per-catch average, earning him the nickname “Big Play Dre.”

“I’m trying not to put my focus there,” said Lambert-Smith, describing himself as a “big jinx person.”

Read the rest of the feature on Lambert-Smith for more on his transfer to Auburn from Penn State, his appreciation for mentoring Auburn freshman receivers and how he’s still on the receiving end of mentorship.

🔼 Lights, Cam, Action. THREE QUESTIONS WITH WR CAM COLEMAN 👇🏼

Q: What’s the mood around the team right now?

A: We’re growing closer. Through times of adversity, people can get mad or look their separate ways, but we’re coming together and closer as a team and building that brotherhood…

Q: What’s been the biggest highlight for you in your first year at Auburn?

A: Probably my first touchdown against Alabama A&M. I had a stop-and-go. I got about 10 yards, broke down the defender, and I just started running. I looked up and saw the ball in the air, and I was like, ‘It’s go time.’ I caught it, and it was just a bunch of joy. It was fun.

🔼 In Sweeping Fashion. Head coach Brent Crouch and the Auburn Tigers (14-4, 4-3) return home to Neville Arena for the first time in three matches, facing a stern LSU (11-7, 3-4) squad TONIGHT. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. This also marks Auburn’s annual Dig Pink match to raise awareness for Breast Cancer research.

Crouch and his crew have been an all-around defensive powerhouse. At 2.70 blocks per set, the Orange and Blue boast the second-best average in the conference and rank No. 19 in the nation. The team's 181.0 total blocks are the most of any Southeastern Conference program.

Last season, the Orange and Blue put together a sweep over LSU, its first since 1999.

🔼 Dipping Their Toes in the Deep End. After two weeks off from competition, head coach Ryan Wochomurka and the Auburn Tigers head to North Carolina for a dual with the Tar Heels today inside the Koury Natatorium. Diving events will begin at 11 a.m. CT, while swimming is scheduled for Noon CT. Live results will be available on Meet Mobile.

The last time fans of the Orange and Blue saw the Tigers in action, the squad was busy putting up stellar performances at the SMU Classic and UNC-Wilmington Invite. As a result, both the men’s and women’s teams hold strong positions in the CSCAA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The men enter Friday at No. 13, while the women are ranked No. 19.
