🎥 WAREAGLE+: TALKING TIGERS

Talking Tigers - Melton Scholars
When Auburn Men’s Basketball plays its lone home exhibition game against Florida Atlantic, all of the proceeds from the game will benefit the Melton Scholars Program. In its second year of a cohorts classic, the Melton Scholars Program helps ten students through their college careers.

In this Talking Tigers Podcast, we hear from associate provost and vice president Dr. Taffye Benson Clayton, donor, mentor and advisory board member Michael Waller, and current Melton Scholar Koushiki Ranjan.

🔼 This Tiger’s Two For Two. Freshman Brenda Jepchirchir led the Auburn women’s cross-country team to a strong finish at the Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin, Saturday. Competing in her second meet for the Tigers, Jepchirchir claimed her second meet victory, crossing the line in 20:00.60 to help the women to a sixth-place finish in the 6k “B” race on the Zimmer Championship Course.

The Tigers now set their sights on conference and regional meets, competing in the SEC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1.

🔼  Leaders of the Pack. Jerrin Thompson climbed over the back of a New Mexico receiver, relieving the Lobo of the football in the second it took both players to land on Pat Dye Field.

Initially ruled an incompletion, video confirmed what Thompson knew all along. He made an interception so extraordinary, it earned national recognition in the form of the Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Play of the Week in Auburn’s 45-19 win on Sept. 14.

After four seasons and 49 games played at Texas from 2020-23, Thompson transferred to Auburn in January, making an impression on and off the field, even being elected as a team captain—a rarity for a first-year player. Occasionally, that means challenging teammates and holding peers accountable for maintaining team standards.

Like Thompson, defensive back Keionte Scott, playing his fifth season of college football and his third on the Plains, eagerly advises Auburn’s newcomers.

“Having older vets passing along knowledge is something I took pride in when I was a younger guy here at Auburn,” Scott said. “Learning new things from older players and seeing how they apply.”

Read the rest of the feature on Thompson and Scott bringing leadership to the secondary.

🔼 A Newbie to the Crewbie. A new era of Auburn softball is beginning under the direction of co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux, and with them are eight new Tigers on The Plains looking to help make a mark in year one.

A true freshman from Schererville, Indiana, Jolie Adams is looking to find her spot in the outfield rotation. A standout at Lake Central, Adams begins her collegiate career after a highly decorated prep career that saw her earn All-America honors from PGF.

Q: What has been the highlight of your softball career so far?

Adams: Winning the PGF Nationals with Tennessee Mojo.

Q: Why did you decide to commit to Auburn?

Adams: Everyone treats you like family.

🔼 See You On Court. Auburn junior Billy Blaydes and senior Will Nolan defeated the top-ranked doubles team in the nation to earn the doubles title at the ITA Regional Championships on Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The win secures the two a spot in the field at the 2024 NCAA Doubles Championship later this fall. Blaydes also took home third place in the singles main draw at the event.

With the victory, Blaydes and Nolan became the first Auburn doubles team to win the Southern Regional title since Tim Puetz and Alex Stamchev in 2009.

🗣 “Auburn men’s tennis has a proud tradition of competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship, and this year, Billy and Will have carried that legacy forward with tremendous growth and success,” - Bobby Reynolds, Auburn head coach
