Bodda Getta Daily Brew 10/21: Special Teams, Indeed

Despite the heartbreaking loss on Saturday, Auburn Football had some incredible plays

Good Morning, Tigers. Despite the unfortunate ending, Auburn had some incredible plays on Saturday against Missouri. A case in point was when Malcolm Simmons pressured Missouri returner Luther Burden III, who muffed the punt that Antonio Kite recovered in the end zone for a touchdown that put Auburn ahead 17-3.

Wait until you see what else we have mixed into the Brew today. Check it out below!

🔼 Still Reining Supreme. The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team improved to 3-0 on the year with an 11-6 victory over two-time defending national champion and No. 4 SMU Saturday afternoon at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.

The Tigers had a big afternoon, winning all four events and securing three of four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors. Auburn took both MOP awards in Jumping Seat, with senior Sophee Steckbeck winning Flat and sophomore Avery Glynn taking Fences. Fifth year Olivia Bradley earned MOP honors in Reining.

“Winning all four events is a big deal and hard to do no matter if you’re home or on the road,” head coach Jessica Braswell said.

🔼 Time to Dip to the ‘Sip. Auburn will aim to end the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule on a high note at The Ally at Old Wavery Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, this week. The three-round event will take place today through Wednesday. Auburn’s team participants will begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. CT on the first hole alongside players from Florida and Wisconsin.

The Tigers enter the tournament after a record-setting performance at the Illini Women’s Invitational, where the team broke the program record for an 18-hole score with a 270 (-18) in the final round. Sophomore Anna Davis also took home the individual title after firing a 13-under 203 to win by three strokes.

Bel Zimmerman, Madison Scheer and Bella Bell all eclipsed double figures in kill totals, and Alexis Dacosta reached 11 digs. However, it wasn’t quite enough to catch the Lady Volunteers as the home side took the match, 3-1.

🔼 Thumbs Down On This Ending. Auburn scored two touchdowns in a minute and a half and took a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter, but No. 19 Missouri rallied to win 21-17 Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

“Another disappointing day,” Auburn coach Hugh Freeze said. “It’s bitter to know we’re unable to get across the finish line against another top-20 team. Give Missouri credit for not folding and continuing to battle.”
