Bodda Getta Daily Brew 10/15: Move Over, Nostradamus

The Auburn MBB team was picked to finish second in a vote by the SEC

Good Morning, Tigers. The preseason No. 11-ranked Auburn men’s basketball team was picked to finish second in a vote by SEC and national media members. They look to defend their SEC Tournament title from a year ago, playing arguably the nation’s toughest schedule.

Senior All-American forward/center Johni Broome, who received votes in SEC Player of the Year voting, was one of two Tigers who earned a nod on the preseason all-conference teams. For the first time in his career, senior combo guard/forward Chad Baker-Mazara (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was honored on the All-SEC Third Team.

Harnden is the coach for men’s sprints and hurdles at Auburn. He was the Men’s National Assistant Coach of the Year after the Tigers’ runner-up finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Ken Harnden’s remarkable journey is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 Aces Are Wild(ly Successful). A key factor in Auburn’s four-set win over Mississippi State on Sunday, Kalei Edson’s performance has landed the rookie SEC Freshman of the Week honors

The Centralia, Illinois product is one-half of the two-headed setting monster alongside Peyton Dunn. The pair directed an offense that hit .359 against the Bulldogs, including two sets north of .500.

Edson scooped up 22 assists across her four sets of work and eight digs. It was her three aces, however, that proved the most influential. All three came during a 9-0 run in the fourth set, with Edson at the service line to effectively put the match to bed.

🔼 Falling in Line. Auburn baseball opened its fall exhibition schedule with a strong showing Saturday in Pensacola, Florida, defeating 2024 College World Series participant Florida State 4-1 and 9-5 in a pair of seven-inning games.

The Tigers tallied 13 runs on 21 hits, including six doubles and a triple, with Ike Irish, Chris Rembert, Eric Guevara, and D'Marion Terrell leading the way with three hits apiece.
