Bodda Getta Brew 8/28: Home Sweep Home

Today, we're getting a heckuva start on volleyball season.

Good morning. Fun fact: Mondays can’t hurt you if volleyball goes undefeated and soccer notches a road comeback all in the same weekend. And wouldn’t you know it… Scroll on down to read all about the squad’s sweep at the War Eagle Invitational.

What else did we mix into today's Brew?

🏐 Three up, three down
⚽ Don’t call it a comeback (okay, call it a comeback)
🐅 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Home Sweep Home. Auburn volleyball was (almost) perfect in this weekend’s War Eagle Invitational—taking down Coppin State (3-1), McNeese (3-0) and Jacksonville State (3-0) to go three-for-three to open their season. This is familiar territory for head coach Brent Crouch as it’s the third time in as many seasons the Tigers begin the season 3-0.

💥 As a team, Auburn hit .395 in their finale against Jacksonville State, giving them over .300 hitting in all three of their opening matches. Now that is unfamiliar territory for the head coach—it’s the first time the team has done that in the Brent Crouch era.

🎯 Akasha Anderson reached double-digits kills in all three matches this weekend for a standout start to the season.

💪 Fallan Lanham and her 11 digs were a season-high and the most since grabbing 14 last season against Texas A&M.

Up next? The Tigers hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Tallahassee, Florida to take on the Seminoles and SMU this weekend in the Seminole Invitational.

🔼 At Your Service. Auburn soccer completed its road swing with a 3-2 victory against Army yesterday. The Tigers trailed 2-1 at the half but roared back with two goals in the final 45 minutes to clinch the 3-2 win and hand the Black Knights their first loss at Clinton Field since 2021.

Need a quick recap of all three goals to secure the road win? It’s as easy as…

🔥 Watch Goal #1
Maquena O'Callaghan found the ball at her feet on the top left edge of the 18 and delivered a cross to an incoming Sammie Brown out near right post, who spun a defender and lapped the keeper thanks to a sliding right-footed shot that tucked inside right post.

🔥 Watch Goal #2
Six minutes out of the break, in the 51st minute, the Tigers evened the score by creating an own goal. Hayden Colson took a throw-in to Olivia Candelino who chipped over to a pressing Marissa Arias near right post, however, the pressure from Marissa Arias forced a Black Knights defender to boot the ball past her keeper and into the back of the net.

🔥 Watch Goal #3
Anna Haddock become the hero we deserve in the 61st minute after netting her second game-winner in three matches.

🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

High five. In their history, Auburn football has churned out some of the greatest running backs in college football history—and frankly, the most talented running back in NFL history, but we digress…

Bo Jackson (obviously) leads the list with 4,303 yards, but can you name the other four running backs who round out the top-five when it comes to career rushing yards in program history?

Think you've got it? Scroll on down to the bottom of this email for the answer!

🐅 ONE BIG THING

Playing to the crowd. When Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze was asked, "What excites you about the upcoming season?" his response was simple… and perfect.

"Jordan-Hare."

Chills. For those that have been in Jordan-Hare Stadium when it's packed out and rocking, there is nothing else quite like it. The passion of the fans is unmatched. Just look back at last year's Texas A&M game or the Ole Miss game the year before. Those who were there, they know.

Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton was on the visitors' sideline for that Ole Miss game in 2021. He still says it's the loudest crowd he's ever been a part of.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Carnell Williams (3,831 yards), James Brooks (3,523 yards), Joe Cribbs (3,368 yards), and Ben Tate (3,321 yards).

Fun Fact: James Brooks and Joe Cribbs played on the same team for three seasons together and both still managed to make the list. It probably had something to do with that 1979 season when they each went over 1,000 rushing yards and the team eclipsed 3,000 rushing yards total. Bulldozers.

🐅 Have a great Monday, y’all.
