Bodda Getta Brew 6/9: Ushering in This New Era
A letter from the desk of John Cohen addresses the new changes brought about by the House V. NCAA settlement.
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Here’s an excerpt from this letter “From the Desk of John Cohen”:
As I think back to our run to San Antonio, I know that Coach Pearl’s 2024-25 Auburn Tigers are the perfect illustration of how championships are won in the modern era. With talent, tenacity and toughness — the same building blocks winning teams have always had; but also with evaluation, recruiting, player development, retention and resources unique to the NIL era of the past four years.
Now the rules are set to change again with the final approval of the House v. NCAA settlement last night.
Many of you have been following the litigation during the past several years and know that college athletics is anticipated to go through a monumental change effective July 1 once the House v. NCAA settlement officially becomes effective. This settlement will eliminate scholarship caps and enable athletic departments to share revenue directly with student-athletes, while leveling the playing field through the implementation of an annual cap on the funds which may be directly distributed.
Read the full letter, including how Auburn and the Auburn Family will contribute to these investments.

⚾️ Auburn Baseball’s epic season comes to a close
🏀 Ian Borders promoted to MBB assistant coach
🐅 And much, much more!

🔼 Double-A Batteries Not Enough. Freshman Andreas Alvarez extended his scoreless innings streak to 16, but No. 13 Coastal Carolina scored four runs in its last two at-bats to sweep the NCAA Auburn Super Regional, defeating No. 4 Auburn 4-1 Saturday at Plainsman Park.
Saturday’s game marked the end of their Auburn careers for the Tigers’ seniors and some draft-eligible players.
🗣 “They were the glue. That’s what allowed us to get here to have a chance and an opportunity to dream about advancing one more step.” - Butch Thompson, head coach
Much deserved 👏

🔼 Bordering On Great News. Long-time Auburn men’s basketball staffer Ian Borders has been promoted to assistant coach as announced by head coach Bruce Pearl.
Borders recently completed his seventh season with the Tigers previously serving as the program’s director of scouting and recruiting from 2023-25 and video coordinator from 2018-23.
🗣 “I’ve always believed in promoting from within and rewarding good people for a job well done. Ian has been with me for a long time. He passed on opportunities to be able to coach but stayed at Auburn.” - Coach Pearl

🔼 Long Snapper, Wide Fanbase. Few would expect the long snapper to be one of the fan favorites of any college football team, but senior Reed Hughes has become that and more for the Auburn Tigers.
Earning three varsity letters since coming to Auburn for the 2020 season, Hughes has not only been a key component of the Tigers’ special teams, but the gregarious graduate in communications has been the focus of an internet video series on Auburn football’s social media channels called “Runnin’ With Reed” that has entertained fans for the past three seasons.
“I didn’t expect to be here six years playing football,” Hughes explains. “I was just looking to meet good friends and find a program to develop me and somewhere to make great connections for when it’s time to hit the real world.
