Bodda Getta Brew 5/6: Time to Talk About Chatterton

After earning a pair of wins against Samford and Tennessee last week, Auburn pitcher Christian Chatterton has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week.

Good Morning, Auburn Family. After earning a pair of wins against Samford and No. 7 Tennessee last week, Christian Chatterton has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. It marks the fifth weekly award for an Auburn player this season, all of which have gone to freshmen. The five honors are the most in a season since 2018.

Chatterton was the only pitcher in the league to earn a pair of wins last week. The right hander struck out a season high 10 batters and retired 18 of 19 batters faced against Samford. His 10 strikeouts were tied for the most by an Auburn pitcher this season and were the most by an Auburn freshman since Keegan Thompson in 2014.

🎥 WAREAGLE+: TALKING TIGERS

Talking Tigers - Larry Vickers
Larry Vickers turned around the women’s basketball program at Norfolk State, taking control of the program that was 0-19 at the time. He soon built it into an MEAC powerhouse. Larry Vickers left his alma mater to become the new head coach at Auburn. In a month, he has hired a coaching staff and completely rebuilt the roster. From the MEAC to the SEC, Larry Vickers talks about the jump in this Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 Statistically Speaking, This Team is Killing It. Auburn is the only team in the league to win eight of its last 10 SEC series. The six SEC series wins this season are already tied for the most since winning seven of 10 SEC series in 2017. The series at Tennessee marked Auburn’s fifth against a top-10 team in the last six weekends. The team’s 13-11 record in SEC play is tied for the best through eight weeks since 2017 (14-10). Tuesday’s win vs. Samford was the team’s fifth shutout of the season, the most since also turning in five shutouts in the shortened 2020 season.

🔼 An Auspicious Start. The No. 17 women’s golf team finished the opening round of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional in a tie for third place with a team score of 1-over (289) on Monday at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona. Sophomore Anna Davis carded a bogey free 69 (-3) in her opening round and is tied for the individual lead.

“A great finish feels great after a really rough start. The coaches have put this team through some unpleasant pressure situations over the past two weeks and we saw it pay off with a great fight.” - Melissa Luellen, head coach

🔼 A “Flurey” of Excitement. Erin Flurey, an experienced attacking midfielder with over 50 appearances in Atlantic Coast Conference competition, has joined the Auburn soccer program from Florida State for her final year of eligibility, Tigers head coach James Armstrong has announced.

Flurey has seen consistent minutes on the pitch since beginning her collegiate career at Syracuse. In over 52 career appearances and 49 career starts, she’s bagged 35 points on 15 goals and five assists. Nearly half of her goals scored (7) have come versus ACC opponents. She’s also a perfect 4-for-4 from the penalty spot.

🔼 Let’s Geaux! Auburn softball co-head coach Chris Malveaux has been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team Coaching Pool for the 2025-2028 quad. As part of the pool, Malveaux will help guide the team at WNT Camps and international events. The pool was approved by USA Softball Board of Directors.

Malveaux is currently in his first season as co-head coach at Auburn alongside his wife, Kate. The duo has led the Tigers to a 32-21 record over their debut season and are preparing Auburn for its postseason run.

🔼 She’s a Keeper. Avery Gillahan, a two-year starting goalkeeper from Iowa State, has joined the Auburn soccer program with two seasons of eligibility remaining, head coach James Armstrong has announced.

Gillahan started all 36 contests in her two years as a Cyclone, making a jaw-dropping 158 saves, including a career-best 96 last season. Her 96 stops ranked seventh nationally amongst Power 4 keepers.
