🎥 WAREAGLE+: TALKING TIGERS

Talking Tigers - Ace Atkins
Like his father, Ace Atkins played on an undefeated Auburn football team. Billy Atkins was one of the main contributors to the Tigers’ 1957 National Championship squad. Ace was a rush end on Auburn’s 1993 unbeaten team.

After his playing days, Ace set out on a writing career, first as a crime reporter in Tampa. Now, he resides in Oxford, Mississippi, and has become a prolific novelist. The fascinating life and career of Ace Atkins is featured in this Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 Predictably Perfect Props. Sophomore infielder Eric Guevara has been named the SEC Player of the Week after leading Auburn’s offense in a sweep of South Carolina. It marks the third straight week an Auburn player has earned a weekly award and is the sixth weekly honor this season.

In a series in which Auburn scored 46 runs on 51 hits, Guevara went 12-for-15 with seven runs, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBI in the three-game sweep. He finished the series opener a double shy of the cycle and drove in a career high five runs, hitting a grand slam in the nine-run fifth inning of the 24-run outburst against the Gamecocks.

🔼 Take Note of These Tigers. The series sweep of South Carolina was Auburn’s second SEC sweep of the season and marked the team’s ninth straight home series win dating back to last season—the most since also winning nine straight home series from 2002-03. The Tigers finished their home SEC schedule with a 12-3 record, tying the 1999 season for the most league wins at Plainsman Park in program history.

The team has won seven of nine league series this season and is the only team in the league to win nine of the last 11 SEC series dating back to last season. The 16 SEC wins guarantee a winning record in league play for the fourth time under head coach Butch Thompson.

The Tigers are coming off a sweep of South Carolina in which they scored 46 runs on 51 hits. Auburn is 20-4 in non-conference play, including 10-2 in midweek games. The team is 24-6 at Plainsman Park and has won 10 of the last 11 home games. The 24 wins at Plainsman Park are the most since 2015 (25) and the third most since 2003.

🔼 Still Clutch. Auburn men's golf alum J.M. Butler captured his first career professional win Sunday at the PGA Tour America's Bupa Championship in Mexico. Butler shot 64-70-69-66 at the Club de Golf Mexico to win by one at 19-under-par.

A 2024 graduate of the program, Butler famously clinched the final point in a 3-2 win over Florida State to give the Tigers their first national title on May 29, 2024.

Sirdah spent her first collegiate season at Indiana, where she was tabbed as one of the top 50 rookies in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. As a freshman, Sirdah led the Hoosiers in every offensive category with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. She was named the Big 10 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week after recording just the second haul in program history with four goals against Lawrence University.
