McCombs will return for her second stint as an assistant coach, and Prestridge will serve as the team’s director of basketball operations.

🗣 “The family atmosphere here at Auburn is different, and it’s special. It was important to bring in staff members who had experience here and know what the Auburn Family is all about.” - Larry Vickers

🔼 Remembering Brother Oliver. Unbeaten Florida came to Jordan-Hare Stadium in November of 1969 expecting to pass its way to another high-scoring victory, but the Gators were in for a record-setting shock.

Auburn defensive backs coach Bill “Brother” Oliver had a plan and the players to pull it off. Florida quarterback John Reaves threw 66 passes that day. Auburn intercepted nine of them, an NCAA record that stands 56 years later.

Oliver, who enjoyed two successful stints as an Auburn assistant coach and served as the Tigers’ interim head coach in 1998, passed away Sunday at the age of 85.

“Brother Oliver came up with a defense,” recalled All-American Buddy McClinton, who made two of the Tigers’ interceptions in Auburn’s 38-12 win. “We absolutely drove them crazy. It was magical. He was just that smart. He was ahead of his time.”

🔼 Nerves of “Steele.” Lucas Steele hit a pinch-hit home run with two outs in the ninth inning to help lift No. 6 Auburn past Jacksonville State, 4-3, Tuesday night at Jim Case Stadium. The win marked Auburn’s eighth one-run win of the season and marked the team’s third win when trialing or tied after eight innings.

Making his second straight midweek start, freshman Christian Chatterton retired the first 18 Gamecocks he faced in the game and racked up his second-highest strikeout total of the season with eight.

🔼 Poised to Pounce. No. 14 Auburn finished the second round of stroke play at the SEC Championship on Tuesday at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Tigers are in fifth place as a team with a 36-hole total of 565 (+5).

Auburn sophomore Anna Davis remained in the top five after round two and is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard and four shots behind the tournament leader, Eila Galitsky, of South Carolina.

“I have full faith that we will climb the leaderboard,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen of tomorrow’s round.

🔼 A Solid Showing. Auburn concluded its regular season with a third-place finish Tuesday at the Ford Collegiate in Savannah, Georgia. Sophomores Jackson Koivun and Cayden Pope led the lineup with a pair of seventh-place finishes at 1-under apiece. A costly 8-over final round saw the No. 1 Tigers take bronze at 4-over overall.

It was the 19th top-10 showing of Koivun’s career, which cemented him as second in the program record books behind teammate Brendan Valdes. Pope picked up his fifth top 10, and his fourth of the season.
