Bodda Getta Brew 4/11: A Great Day to Have a Great Day

Find our more about the Red Zone lockout, the new format for A-Day's spring football preview.

Good Morning, Auburn Family. The wait for spring football and much more is over. A-Day is HERE, and there are some exciting new twists.

Competition will still be part of the A-Day gameplan Saturday, even though Auburn’s traditional spring scrimmage has transitioned to a practice, aligning with a trend throughout college football.

“We’re going to end with what we call red zone lockout, which will be a live period,” Coach Hugh Freeze said. “First one to 18 wins. Offense gets the ball on the 25, you score a touchdown with an extra point, that’s seven. The defense stops you and you kick a field goal, that’s three points for the offense and four points for the defense.”

🔼 No Sweat … Well, Maybe Some Sweat. The Auburn men’s tennis team is set to finish its regular season in the state of Louisiana this weekend, with a match against Tulane today at 1 p.m. CT in New Orleans before facing LSU at noon CT in Baton Rouge on Sunday.

“Going into Louisiana, we’ll have to get used to the humidity and the other outside factors of the area,” said Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds.

The Tigers will enter the weekend with a 16-9 overall record and a 6-7 record in the SEC. Auburn is currently ninth in the SEC standings with one conference match remaining. Seeds five through 11 will receive a first-round bye at the SEC Championship in Columbia, South Carolina.

🔼 All On the Line. The No. 8 Women’s tennis team will conclude the regular season with a pair of SEC matches at the Yarbrough Tennis Center over the weekend. Auburn will face Ole Miss tonight at 5 p.m. CT and No. 11 LSU for Senior Day on Sunday at noon.

Auburn will enter the final weekend of the regular season with a 20-5 overall record and a 9-4 mark in SEC play. After defeating Kentucky and upsetting No. 6 Tennessee last weekend, the Tigers moved up to No. 8 in the latest ITA National Team Rankings that were released on Tuesday. Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma are now tied for third in the SEC standings with two conference matches remaining.

🔼 Multi-Talented. Auburn track & field travels to Bryan-College Station, Texas to compete in the 44 Farms Team Invitational today and tomorrow. Action for the Tigers starts this morning at 11:30 a.m. CT with the decathlon’s 100m dash and picks back up Saturday with the decathlon’s 110m hurdles at 11:30 a.m.

Auburn will have a limited squad competing this weekend as five athletes make the trip to Texas. Auburn will be joined by 31 schools, including No. 3/1 Georgia, No. 23/NR Houston, Mississippi State, No. 13/7 Oklahoma, No. 11/21 Texas Tech and host No. 1/3 Texas A&M.

“This is primarily a meet we’ve circled for our multis event athletes,” Auburn track & field head coach Leroy Burrell said.

🔼 Wrestling With This Responsibility. Looking to win back-to-back SEC series, the Auburn softball team (25-16, 2-13 SEC) hosts No. 18 Georgia (26-13, 4-10 SEC) for MalveauxMania at Jane B. Moore Field.

The series begins tonight with MalveauxMania, a professional wrestling themed game for the Tigers. Fans will receive a free MalveauxMania poster while supplies last and a poster station will be available for fans to create signs. First pitch on the SEC Network is set for 5 p.m. CT. Saturday’s game time is at 3:30 p.m., while Sunday’s finale is set for 1 p.m. CT.

🔼 Baseball Vs. Bayou Tigers. Continuing its stretch of four straight weekends against top-10 opponents, No. 9 Auburn (23-10, 6-6 SEC) hosts No. 3 LSU (31-3, 10-2 SEC) for a three-game series this weekend. First pitches at Plainsman Park are scheduled for today and tomorrow at 6 p.m. CT and Sunday at 2 p.m.
