Bodda Getta Brew 3/25: Coach Larry's Lofty WBB Goals
New Auburn WBB coach Larry Vickers was formally introduced at the Woltosz Center today, where he outlined his vision for hard work and the ensuing results.
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Outlining his values and vision for Auburn’s women’s basketball program, new head coach Larry Vickers referred to principles that have guided Auburn for generations.
“I believe in work, and hard work,” Vickers, who is the son of a 32-year U.S. Navy veteran, said, quoting the Auburn Creed Monday in his formal introduction at the Woltosz Center. “Hopefully our hard work can lead to championships. Hopefully our hard work can lead to that celebration of rolling Toomer’s Corner. Hopefully our hard work can lead to a 100-percent graduation rate.”
Go here for more on his accolades from his coaching days at Norfolk State, his winning formula and what drew him away from his alma mater to The Plains after all these years.

🔼 From the Plains to the Rains … in Seattle. The No. 15 Auburn gymnastics team will be the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Gymnastics Washington Regional held April 4-6 in Seattle.
The Tigers will compete in the night session at 9 p.m. CT on Friday, April 4, against No. 1 seed Oklahoma, Nebraska and the winner of the play-in between Illinois and UC Davis. The afternoon session of the second round will feature No. 2 seed Missouri, No. 3 seed Georgia, Arizona and Arizona State. The top two teams will advance to the regional final on Sunday, April 6.
The top two squads from the regional final and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Championship, April 17-19, in Fort Worth, Texas.

🔼 Butch, Baseball & Broken Records. Tuesday’s win vs. Alabama State marked head coach Butch Thompson’s 300th of his Auburn career, joining Paul Nix and Hal Baird. The Tigers improved to 6-2 against ranked opponents this season by going 2-1 for the weekend.
The series win at Kentucky marked the team’s eighth straight winning weekend dating back to the last two series of 2024, also marking the longest weekend/series winning streak since 2003. It was also the first series win at Kentucky since 2011. The 4-2 start to SEC play is tied for the best since starting 5-1 in 2017 and is also tied for the second best SEC start under Thompson.

🔼 Just Needed a Challenge. It was a slow start Monday for the Auburn men's golf team at the Valspar Collegiate, but a gritty second round saw the No. 1 Tigers climb five spots up the leaderboard into fourth place ahead of Tuesday's finale at The Floridian. No. 2 Texas leads the field at 25-under. Auburn sits one shot back of third and five shots back of second.
Auburn opened the competition in ninth at 3-under, but responded with a 9-under afternoon round to inch closer to the top of the ladder. Thanks to a 64 (-7) in the first round, sophomore Jackson Koivun leads the lineup in seventh overall, individually.

🔼 Strokes Of Near Genius. No. 19 Women’s golf is in fourth place through the first two rounds/36 holes of the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The Tigers are 8-over for the event (568) and eight strokes behind the tournament co-leaders, No. 3 Oregon and No. 9 Wake Forest.
Sophomore Anna Davis led the Tigers, carding a 2-under 68 in round one followed by a 1-under 69 in round two. Davis’ opening round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 11, a par-5, while her second round featured three birdies. The sophomore is in a tie for fourth place individually.

🔼 To the Bump in the Gump. Coming off its eighth straight winning weekend, No. 11 Auburn (19-5) heads to Montgomery to take on South Alabama (11-12) tonight at 6 p.m. CT at Riverwalk Stadium.
