Bodda Getta Brew 3/12: Broome, Fantastic Four
All-American Johni Broome chronicles his storybook season and his hopes for the tournament.
Good Morning, Auburn Family. Amid a flurry of interviews at SEC Tipoff ’25 three weeks before the start of what’s become a historic season, Johni Broome paused briefly before answering a question about what a movie named after him would be titled.
“The Fantastic Four,” Broome responded.
The All-American then fleshed out the plot, with the first act detailing his upbringing in Tampa, Florida, the second act focusing on his time at Morehead State, the third act would highlight his Auburn seasons and the fourth would chronicle his future exploits.
If act three is any indication of what’s to come, act four figures to be quite a doozy.
Read more about Broome’s storybook season, including his decision to delay his professional career, his many accolades and how the early 2024 tourney exit has fueled the team to bring their A-games this year.

🏀 Broome and Coach Pearl get more awards, this time from the AP
⚾️ Baseball defeated UT Martin with career-best outing by Alex Petrovic
🐅 And much, much more!

🔼 Showered With Flowers. The AP released its SEC postseason award winners and the media agreed with the league’s coaches as SEC Coach and Player of the Year honors were bestowed upon Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and senior All-American forward/center Johni Broome.
Broome continues to receive his flowers as the best player in the country and league, receiving 15 of 16 votes from reporters who cover the SEC. He joined Charles Barkley (1984) and Chris Porter (1999) as the only Tigers to earn such an accolade from the AP.

🔼 Petrovic Pitching = Chef’s Kiss. Highlighted by a career-best outing from Alex Petrovic, No. 23 Auburn defeated UT Martin 6-1 in front of a neutral-site crowd of 5,207 at Toyota Field Tuesday night.
Making just his second career start, Petrovic retired the first 15 batters he faced and needed just 50 pitches to get through the fifth inning. The sophomore right hander ultimately allowed one run on one hit with a walk and a career-high eight strikeouts en route to earning the win.

🔼 Getting Over the Hump. The No. 20 Auburn softball (20-4) team concludes its four-game road swing today, returning to non-conference play with a midweek test at Georgia Tech (15-9). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT. The Tigers are looking to stop a three-game losing skid after falling at No. 21 Mississippi State to open SEC play.
The two teams have played three times over the last two seasons with each game decided by one run. Auburn is searching for its first true road win in the series.

🔼 Swimming in Good News. Senior Whit Andrus continued to put on a show on day three of the 2025 Zone B Championships inside James E. Martin Aquatics Center. The North Carolina product dialed up a career-best 412.40 in finals to add platform to his NCAA Championships resume.
Senior Abigail Farrar was dynamite during prelims of the women’s 3-meter. Her 636.00 total was good enough for ninth overall and an important top-12 finish heading into the platform competition today.
🔼 A Stone’s Throw From Making More History. She’s qualified and ready to go! Maura Huwalt secured first place in weight throw at four meets this season. She finished fourth at SEC Indoor Championships. Her mark of 22.27m is No. 2 on Auburn’s Top 10 List. Huwalt will compete Friday in weight throw at 1:15 pm CT.

🥳 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Three!
Bruce Pearl is the fourth coach in Auburn MBB program history to earn a nod from the AP next to Joel Eaves (1960), Sonny Smith (1984) and Cliff Ellis (1999). However, he is the only of the group to be named twice in 2022 and 2025.
🗣 Thank you to The Patriot Ledger for this awesome photo of Coach Pearl from his senior year at Sharon High School!
🐅 Happy Wednesday, Auburn Fam!
