🔼 The Usual Suspects. Auburn standouts Ike Irish and Cooper McMurray have been named preseason All-SEC. Irish was tabbed a First Team Preseason All-SEC catcher and McMurray was named a Second Team Preseason All-SEC first baseman.

It marks the second straight season Irish has been named First Team Preseason All-SEC and is the first preseason recognition for McMurray. Irish has also earned preseason All-America honors from Baseball America, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game.

The top two hitters on last year’s team, Irish and McMurray collected a combined 28 home runs with 115 RBI.

🔼 Built Different, Indeed. Auburn senior guard/forward Chad Baker-Mazara has been selected as one of 10 top candidates for the 2025 Julius Erving Award, in partnership with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The annual Julius Erving Award, named after the Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player, celebrates its 11th year by recognizing the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball.

🔼 The Final Puzzle Piece. Omar Mabson II, a running back from Auburn (Ala.) High School (also featured in WarEagle+ above), will join the Auburn Tigers for the 2025 football season, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze—who called him “a big, physical, strong running back”—announced Wednesday.
 
Mabson, a 5-9, 210-lb. tailback who earned first team Class 7A all-state honors last fall and set an Auburn High record with 29 rushing touchdowns as a junior, becomes the 26th high school member of Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class after reclassifying in December.

🔼 Aggies in the Jungle. The Auburn women’s basketball team is back inside Neville Arena tonight as they take on the Texas A&M Aggies. Game time is 6 p.m. CT. The Tigers (11-11, 2-7 SEC) play the first of just two February home games before hitting the road for four of their next five.

A win for Tigers WBB would be the squad’s third straight home win. It would also give Auburn three straight wins at home against Texas A&M and help the team to ecure a winning record at home for 2024-25.

🔼 Saying “Aloha” to Golf. Returning to collegiate competition for the first time in three months, the No. 3 Auburn men’s golf team begins its spring season today through Saturday (Feb. 6-8) at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai’i. A shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. CT kickstarts the tournament's opening round. This marks the Tigers’ 11^th appearance at Amer Ari since 2013.

Auburn’s starting five consists of seniors Carson Bacha and Ryan Eshleman, sophomores Jackson Koivun and Cayden Pope as well as freshman Billy Davis. Junior Reed Lotter also made the trip and will play as an individual for the duration of the event. The six men combined for 21 subpar rounds, 165 birdies and 10 top-20 finishes throughout the fall season.

What Did You Do to Celebrate? Yesterday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and this year felt even more special. From female athletes like Caitlin Clark and Coco Gauff to Angel Reese and Nelly Korda, women’s sports are having more than a moment. The female student-athletes at Auburn couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.
