Good Morning, Auburn Family. The SEC’s third leading scorer averaging 22 points per game, DeYona Gaston delivers for Auburn.  

 “Whenever the lights come on, I’m going to play my best game every game,” said Gaston, who ranks No. 10 in rebounding in the SEC.

Shooting a career-best 54.6-percent from the field, Gaston has answers for however defenders guard her, ready with a quick trigger to launch her trademark turnaround jumper.

Before coming to the Plains, Gaston played 106 games in four seasons at Texas, averaging 9 points per game, production she has more than doubled at Auburn.

Talking Tigers - Sonny DiChiara
Sonny DiChiara had a great career at Samford. He was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year. He hit 21 home runs as a freshman and 18 as a junior. In 2021, he entered the transfer portal and came to Auburn. What transpired was one of the greatest seasons in Tigers history. DiChiara was named SEC Player of the Year, winning the league batting crown and hitting 22 home runs. Auburn won the NCAA Regional, then proceeded to Oregon State to win the Super Regional and, finally, the squad advanced to the College World Series.

DiChiara is gearing up for spring training with the Los Angeles Angels organization. Before his drive to spring training in Arizona, Sonny DiChiara, aka “Sonny D,” sat down for the Talking Tigers Podcast.

🔼 Hit ‘Em in the Numbers. Below are some quick hits from this week’s Auburn Baseball Notebook: 👇🏼

• Auburn led the league with a .371 average for the week, including a .423 average in the three games vs. Wright State.

• The Tigers scored 44 runs on 59 hits, good for the second most hits in the league during the week.

• The 15 strikeouts vs. North Alabama were the most in a game since striking out 16 vs. Stanford in the 2022 College World Series.

• The week marked Auburn’s first 5-0 week since 2022.

🔼 Bub’s Breakout Week. Auburn outfielder Bub Terrell has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. Terrell hit .368 (7-for-19) with two home runs and seven RBI to earn Auburn’s first SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Ike Irish did so three times in 2023.

Terrell hit his first collegiate homer in the series opener vs. Wright State. The three-run shot jumped off his bat at 109 miles per hour. In the series finale two days later, Wright State had cut its deficit to one run in the sixth inning when Terrell hit his second HR of the weekend with two outs in the seventh inning, ultimately leading to a series sweep.

🔼 Vaulting Ambition. The Auburn gymnastics team upped its National Qualifying Score to a 196.925 following an historic Friday night in Coleman Coliseum, holding on to No. 11 in this week’s RoadToNationals.com rankings. The Tigers (10-3, 3-2 SEC) bested the No. 17 Crimson Tide this past Friday by .400, scoring a season-high 197.750 to Alabama’s 197.350.

Auburn’s beam squad is ranked No. 5 nationally with a 49.350 NQS. Individually, freshman Katelyn Jong is ranked No. 16 in the all-around with a 39.380 NQS and is ranked eighth on bars (9.905).

🔼 Who Let the Dawgs In? Capping a stretch of nine home games in the first 12 days of the season, No. 25 Auburn (7-1) hosts Samford (3-4) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park. The game will be broadcast on the Auburn Sports Network and can be heard locally on Wings 94.3 FM. It will also be streamed digitally on SEC Network+.

🔼 On the Plains With Genevieve Ahlstedt. Auburn senior Genevieve Ahlstedt gives many thanks to her trainer, Kara Dougherty.

“As I’ve gotten older and looked back at the lessons she has taught me, I’m able to appreciate them and really embrace the good, bad and the ugly,” said Ahlstedt.

Reflecting on her time on the team, Ahlstedt has made a lot of memories. However, nothing topped the unforgettable feeling of winning her first SEC Championship in Auburn. Ahlstedt ran to Toomer’s Corner with friends and family to celebrate.

“It still gives me chills thinking about it,” Ahlstedt said.
