Good Morning, Auburn Family. Johni Broome logged a double-double and No. 1 Auburn ended the game on a 10-2 run to defeat Arkansas 67-60 Wednesday at Neville Arena.

“Our offense left a lot to be desired, but our guys competed,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. “Holding Arkansas to 60 points is significant.”

Chad Baker-Mazara scored 15 points and Chaney Johnson added 14. Miles Kelly made four of Auburn’s seven steals and grabbed eight rebounds, helping the Tigers outrebound Arkansas 42-29.

🔼 Newbie Power. Andreas Alvarez did something no freshman pitcher has done in more than a decade during the Auburn baseball team’s Wednesday night 6-2 win over North Alabama. After giving up two runs in the first four pitches of his Auburn debut, Alvarez struck out eight of the next 11 batters he faced and didn’t allow a hit during the span. He ended his first career start with nine strikeouts, the most by an Auburn freshman since Keegan Thompson in 2014.

Three fellow freshmen also produced at the plate to lead No. 25 Auburn to the dub.

“They had a huge part in the game today,” head coach Butch Thompson said of the freshman class.

🔼 Game, Set, “Mats”. Auburn freshman Mats Bredschneijder has been named SEC Freshman of the Week. Bredschneijder is the second Tiger freshman to pick up the honor, as Alex Frusina was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 5.

Bredschneijder had a breakout day on Sunday when the Tigers swept a doubleheader against FGCU. In the first match, the Dutchman shut out Ninad Raut in the opening set then won six consecutive games to close out his second set to win 6-0, 6-1 in a match that lasted under an hour that tied the match at one. Bredscneijder closed out his second match against Stavros Hadjivarnava in dominant fashion by not allowing a game in the second set and won 6-2, 6-0.

🔼 Danny Does It. Junior Danny Schmidt swam two of the five fastest times in Auburn history in the 200 IM on Wednesday at the SEC Championships, vaulting the Tigers to eighth (199 points) on the men’s side. The women sit ninth with 180.5 points with three days of swimming and diving left to go inside Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Auburn sophomore Jackson Koivun was named a semifinalist for the 95^th Amateur Athletic Union Sullivan Award on Tuesday for his efforts last season after leading the Tigers to their first national title while piecing together one of the most brilliant individual campaigns in the history of collegiate golf.

🔼 “Weather” Or Not to Play. With snow on the ground at Toyota Field and freezing temperatures expected in the Madison area all weekend, Auburn softball’s Rocket City Showcase schedule has been altered.

The Tigers open competition Friday against Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. CT.  Friday’s contest against James Madison has been canceled.

Auburn will still face North Alabama on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT, but its contest versus Miami (Ohio) has been moved up to a 12:30 p.m. CT start.

Sunday’s finale versus Jacksonville State will now start at 3 p.m. CT.
