Bodda Getta Brew 2/10: Auburn Gymnastics Floored 'Em

Sophia Groth anchored with a season-best 9.95 on floor to lead Auburn Gymnastics to a come-from-behind win over Georgia Friday at Neville Arena.

Good Morning, Auburn Family. In a back-and-forth meet that went down to the final routine, Sophia Groth anchored with a season-best 9.95 on floor to lead No. 12 Auburn to a come-from-behind 197.3-197.2 win over No. 11 Georgia Friday at Neville Arena.

Trailing by a tenth heading to the final rotation, Auburn evened the score after the first five routines. Georgia’s beam anchor earned a 9.775, giving the Tigers an opportunity for a walk-off win.

Anchoring for the first time in her career, Groth delivered, helping the Tigers earn their season-best score.

🐅 And much, much more!

🎥 WAREAGLE+: TBD

2/4/25 This Week in Auburn Baseball
Butch Thompson sits down with Andy Burcham to catch up on a busy offseason and preview the start of the 2025 season.

🔼 The Magic of the Malveaux Mindset. A dominating start by Chalea Clemmons and a nine-run fourth inning powered Auburn softball (5-0) to an 11-1 victory over North Carolina (3-2) Sunday at Jane B. Moore Field to cap a perfect Opening Weekend on The Plains.

In her first collegiate start, Clemmons was virtually untouchable as she kept the Tar Heels off the board over the first four innings. Haley Rainey recorded the final three outs. She allowed one hit, one walk and recorded a strikeout.

Amelia Lech delivered a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Tigers on the board and then added her third RBI of the game as part of Auburn’s giant fourth inning.

🔼 The Bacha Boost is Real. It came down to his 54th and final hole of the week, but with a birdie on the par-5 fifth Saturday at the Mauna Lani Golf Course, senior Carson Bacha officially set a program record for tournament score at 18-under 198. He placed tied for third, individually, at the Amer Ari Invitational.

Bacha shot 68-66-64 to pave his bronze-worthy path. He bogeyed just three holes while picking up 19 birdies and one eagle. He led No. 3 Auburn to a fourth-place finish, eight spots higher than where it stood following the first round.

🔼 Cardinal Win. In their inaugural matchup, the No. 10 Auburn women’s tennis team earned an upset over No. 4 Stanford in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday afternoon in Evanston, Illinois. The win marks the first time that the Tigers have advanced to the second round of the event and the second top-five team they’ve defeated in the past week.

On top of being the fourth-ranked team in the nation this season, Stanford is one of the most historically successful teams in women’s tennis, claiming 21 national titles and 29 Pac-12 titles with 42 NCAA Tournament appearances.

No. 10 Women’s tennis ended its time at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on a high note on Sunday, knocking off No. 8 North Carolina by a 4-1 score.  After dropping the doubles point, the Tigers won four singles matches to clinch the win over the historical program. The win marks Auburn’s third victory over the Tar Heels all-time and the first since 1996.

🔼 Equestri-WIN. The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team capped a busy weekend with another victory, topping No. 9 UT Martin Saturday afternoon at the Auburn University Equestrian Center, 11-6.

The Tigers (8-1) once again swept the Most Outstanding Performer honors, including a pair of MOP repeats from senior Mary-Grace Segars and junior Caroline Fredenburg.

🔼 Get a Win Sooner Than Later. Auburn WBB will make its first-ever trip to the Sooner State when the Tigers take on No. 15 Oklahoma Monday night in Norman. Game time is 7 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Tigers (12-11, 3-7 SEC) look to build on three straight home SEC wins.

Monday’s game will be the first of four straight against top-25 opponents. After the trip to Norman, Auburn will travel to No. 19 Tennessee, host No. 24 Vanderbilt and then travel to No. 23 Alabama.

🔼 Far-Reaching Wins. Auburn seniors Maura Huwalt and Kyle Brown highlighted the Tiger’s showing with first-place finishes in weight throw in the Charlie Thomas Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

Huwalt took the top spot on the podium in women’s weight throw for the fourth time in four weeks. Brown joined Huwalt on the winner’s podium in weight throw. His best attempt of the day came from his third toss of the competition (21.22).

🔼 The Meets Went Swimmingly. Between the final day of the AU Invite and the First Chance Meets, head coach Ryan Wochomurka left with plenty of positives as Auburn looks toward the SEC Championships.

Maggie McGuire kicked off Saturday morning with a sturdy performance in the 200 back. Her 1:57.26 led the Orange and Blue. On the men’s side, it was Andrew Simmons’ 1:42.74 who claimed the second-fastest time of the day and his fastest time this season. Four Tigers went sub-50 seconds in the women’s 100 free.

🔼 It’s Been a Minute. No. 1 Auburn started fast but No. 6 Florida broke open a close game late in the first half and made 13 3-pointers to win 90-81 Saturday at Neville Arena, ending the Tigers’ 14-game winning streak.

🗣 “They played harder, they played better, they played more desperately. We did not look like the No. 1 team in the country, we did not act like the No. 1 team in the country, we didn’t prepare like it, and a result, we got beat.” - Bruce Pearl, head coach
