🔼 Pest Control. It may have been an earlier start than usual for the second-ranked Auburn men’s hoops team, but it sure didn’t seem to bother the Tigers.
AU got off a fast start and never looked back on Sunday, blowing past the Spiders of Richmond, 98-54.
Miles Kelly and Tahaad Pettiford each scored 15 points to pace six Tigers in double figures. Chad Baker-Mazara and Jahki Howard each added 13 points, with the latter logging his career high and eliciting the game’s loudest cheers with electrifying dunks.
🔼 Tiger Tough. Down three starters and limited to just seven players, the Auburn women’s team grinded their way to a hard-fought 69-62 victory over visiting UAB on Sunday afternoon.
Making her first collegiate start, Syriah Daniels thrilled the crowd, which included her father, scoring a career-high 14 points and grabbing four rebounds to lead the way for the Tigers.
🔼 Instant Impact. Back-to-back top-10 signing classes were locked up last week and the first of that batch is already paying off for the Tigers.
Jay Crawford and Cam Coleman, who were a part of last year’s top-10 class, made an instant impact for Coach Freeze and his staff. So much so that both youngsters were named Freshman All-American over the weekend.
🔼 Breaking In Boston. The AU track duo of sophomore Nickson Chebii and freshman Brenda Jepchirchir got the indoor season started in a big way this past weekend.
Chebii crossed in 13:38.16 to break Chris Fox’s time of 13:44.73 set in 1980. Jepchirchir, racing in her first collegiate 5000m, ran a 15:35.36 to break Joyce Kimeli’s previous school record of 15:37.82. The Kenyan native also broke Kimeli’s freshman record she set in 2019 (16:28.67).

🐅 ONE BIG THING
All Love. With his collegiate playing career over, Tate Johnson knows that he’ll never find another place like Auburn. To quote the LaGrange, Ga. native, “I love this place. I’m so grateful for my time here.”
